I'm really glad to see this because my friends thought I was silly for putting a cabbage palm leaf on my head when it started raining.

Good idea i grew up in South Florida and thats one they should. Have taught us in school but did not ! Having a proper lid down there is a necessity to survive

You said it all when you said the more you put in your head the more confident you will be. You are right "no one is truly stupid they just don't know stuff", I think Jessica Simpson said that? but it is true, every piece of knowledge you gain will be called into play when its survival time, it just makes sense to get and retain as much as you can.Thank you for posting this video, it shows that just because you don't have it don't mean you cant improvise it.

Clever. However it reminds me of a story someone told me. Back in the bad old days when it was possible to buy little Alligators in souvenir shops in Florida, (a custom that, thank God, has been made illegal, because obviously it is quite cruel to the little Gators and also not a good idea to take Gators out of their natural habitat,) a family did exactly that: Bought a baby gator and took it back to New York with them. Then, lacking any other place to put it, they put it in their bathtub and then went out, hopefully to a pet shop to buy a tank for it. Now, while they were out, here comes their Cleaning lady, who lets herself in as she always has and she gets to work and gets to the bath room and.........The family found a note waiting for them when they got home and an only half cleaned apartment. The note said, "I quit! I refuse to work for People who put Alligators in their bath tubs! P.S. I would have informed you of this when you hired me, but I didn't think it would come up!" So! If I ever find myself lost in a huge palmetto forest and need a hat, I now know what to do, but....I don't think that situation will ever come up!
