The anti affordable housing movements/nymbyism is a new concept that started in the late 80s because rich people didn't want to live near the middle class or the poor.

How many more incentives do developers need, though? Many of them are already getting local tax breaks and other incentive packages. Now, they can add additional state incentives to that list, only to have 70-unit set-asides for workforce and affordable housing? They call this a win? Tuh!

The price of homes doubled in about 18 months across much of south Florida. I’ve seen some places triple. South Florida is one of the epicenters for flippers and investors overbidding and hoarding properties. Not going to end well.

Three thousand people have had to pay application fees for background checks for less than 300 Apartments. People that are desperate for an apartment include homeless people. In most cases you have to pay an application fee to apply to rent an apartment and if you're already struggling, paying an application fee 100 times is very expensive. It will be nice that they can cherry-pick from 3,000 people perhaps for the company but 2700 people threw away their money. Why did they accept applications from 3,000 people for 300 Apartments? What was the application fee each of those people had to pay? Did they do background checks on all three thousand people or just 500 or less? What is the profit when you don't check 2500?

With increase in interest rates if the FEDS would get out of housing mortgage trade market you would see a major correction. We had homes for sale in 2011 -12 where I live for 75,000 small new starter homes. However, FEDS drop interest rate to stupid lows.

We need to be building 50 story high rises in Orlando and Miami. Lake county needs to be developed. Seminole county needs 3-6 story apartments (at least they don't have nymbys blocking it). Maybe we could bring down prices 20% but we need less regulations and to repeal federal laws limiting trade between states if we want to truly start reducing the costs. Luckily florida isn't Washington, CA, or NY so maybe there is still a chance at achieving affordability. Most politicians and people under the age of 65 agree with these affordable housing bills.
