Completely dominant & I expected nothing less. Too many weapons at every position. Might be the best team in history, considering how much the game has grown since Carolina won their championships. Back then the game was just starting off for most women’s soccer programs, while UNC had already been playing for years. Of course they won so much. Now, more & more teams have national team players, future pros, internationals, etc & we just saw FSU completely dominate one of those teams. Stanford is a top program. Extremely impressive.

Years ago, the women's soccer championship was usually available on regular ESPN. Now, there is some esoteric subscription required that didn't make sense to me. Why can't it just be shown on regular ESPN like the old days? It could have calmed down many angry FSU fans in Florida who are upset about being left out of the CFP. At least FSU soccer won it all.

So yes, UNC has the crown atop the mountain based on who they used to be. Good team, this Stanford team, but realistically, this Florida state team was a notch above the college game. -first of all; haft of the FSU is international: have experienced national teams game and have experience at the college level (seniors) -Plus, the new additions for this year are a heck of a lot good (specially that freshman Jordin.) -Actually, I would say that FSU has been kind of underachiever: they should had won it the las two years in a raw. _It's going to be very interesting to see FSU next year; most of the senior are gone, they still will have Jordin, Taylor Huff, Mimi van Zaten to lead them but it will be more even, the other teams will have a good chance at it.

I would like people with hearing to connect with me. Okay - this may generate some negative comments but here goes- 1/3 of Florida State’s roster is made up of international players. BYU has none. Now I am not at all xenophobic or any of that crap but I do think that having that many players takes away opportunities for girls who have worked hard from the U.S. and because Florida State did so well it is likely that we will see even more international recruitment, with even fewer opportunities for girls from the U.S. Now I get it, if a woman is clearly better than any candidates from the U.S. she should probably be recruited but where does it stop? There are already enough challenges for women’s sports in the U.S. can you imagine if the roster of all Div 1 football teams were from other countries there would at least be some grumbling.
@andresnaranjo727711 ай бұрын
This team actually has fewer international players than some FSU teams in the past. And yes, they have international players. There is no rule that says BYU can't have any. If they choose not to recruit any, or no internationals want to go there, then that's on them. The days when a university team fielded only players from a single town, or a single state are long gone. Soccer is a global sport, and if women from other parts of the world choose to pursue their education, and athletic development in the US then who are we to keep them away or tell them they can't. I would actually challenge your statements by highlighting how having players from other parts of the world, Jamaica, England, Sweden, Japan, Portugal, Bermuda, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Iceland, Finland, Canada, how that might expose the US players to different cultures, beliefs and even different approaches to the game of soccer. There is value in a well-rounded education, which exposes students to the wider world around them, as opposed to the belief systems and faiths, and philosophies of just one state, or one region, or one religion. There is value in diversity. But I will also leave you with this thought: These women will go back to their home countries and take with them the experiences, and culture, and ideas they have been exposed to here. They will forge a path in their countries using the education they got in the US, and I'd wager good money that they will have an impact in their communities, and their homes because they had the opportunity to play soccer at Florida State. The world will be a better place because of it, sooner or later.
@TheMarpalm11 ай бұрын
@@andresnaranjo7277 first I appreciate your consideration and your thoughts. To be clear on my end, as a girls coach for many years and seeing some college teams with half the roster of international players I think this takes away opportunities for girls from the U.S. That is my only point. In fact I do not think there is any argument to that point. I hope we can agree that U.S. women who grow up playing in the U.S. and go on to play in college in the U.S. are better for U.S. soccer overall- we will retain more of that talent and passion for the game- many of those women will go on to coach at the youth level etc. Arguments could be made for how this is better for the U.S. National team, better for women’s college soccer but I think you get my point. Of course BYU could recruit international players. And of course there are some benefits from those women taking their experience in the U.S. back to their countries. But in the end this practice takes opportunities away from U.S. girls. Let me ask you this - would it be okay for all Division 1 teams to be made up of 1/2 international players? How about 3/4? If you start to get uncomfortable as that percentage grows then you see my point. I have always admired Anson Dorrance and his great program at UNC has zero international players. One last point - you are likely aware that there are a number of international scouts who make money bringing foreign players to U.S. college coaches. They actually make it easier to recruit foreign players than U.S. players. All that to say that I am biased towards seeing girls in the U.S. who have worked all their lives to get better get every opportunity and the more foreign players who fill rosters in the U.S. the less opportunities there are for girls in the U.S.
@sandywright847011 ай бұрын
@@TheMarpalm I agree with you on this 100%. There is nothing wrong with recruiting international players but I think there should be a limit.
@sandywright847011 ай бұрын
1/2 of the starting lineup was international (5 out of 11). It is not xenophobic to see so many international players make up basically 1/2 the team in a college-level sport. At the professional level? Ok, maybe, as teams are paid to win. But college is more than sports, it's also an opportunity to gain an education. Any country would feel the same about international players making up 1/2 their starting lineup.
@sww439011 ай бұрын
International players are in other sports as well at the college level. All the best u.s. women are playing at the college level. You’re envious of FSU’s level of play. International students being drawn to the United States in the name of soccer is producing a better product on the field. The seminoles are incredible. You’re trying to take that from them but YOU CANNOT.
