Florida Winter Camping | Jacksonville | Hanna Park

Florida winter camping offers folks just like us a chance to escape the cold and spend the winter all warm and toasty in Florida. If you’re camping near Jacksonville we think you’ll love spending a week or four at Hanna Park! It’s a large (over 200 sites) campground that makes beach camping you can afford and enjoy. Hanna Park campground of Jacksonville really surprised us! We expected tight sites in a trailer park setting and we were wrong. It very much resembled even the best Florida State parks. We camped here in our van, a Winnebago Travato and we fit nicely but be warned many of the sites will be pretty tight for bigger rigs.

Love this video. I can tell all 3 of you love the beach and love to walk. That’s good exercise right there. It looks nice there at that park. Glad you found that park too bad it was cold while you were there. But at least you had fun. The food was good except for the octopus! I don’t bland you there. I grew up going to Hanna Park with my parents. It was so much fun, but it was much different back then. We swam in the lake(everyone did). Also, the best part was that we were allowed to walk up the dunes. There were trails all through the dunes, but my feet got full of sand spurs and we’ve have to stop to pull them out, lol! All trails would lead you to the very top of the dunes overlooking the ocean. It was beautiful. I haven’t been there in at least 30 years. Such good memories.

@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Thank you. I grew up in Jax, but moved to NC when I was 19 or 20. I used to make frequent visits, but haven’t been back since 2007. I will surely make a trip to Hanna Park when I return. Although I’m sure what they’ve done preserving the dunes is best, it will be sad to go and not be able to walk through them again. The trails then were just sand, and small & narrow, made from the people walking through them to the very top. I didn’t even know they had made all these changes until watching videos this week. I see they have added a lot of nice things too though, so I would like to see and experience them. It was a special place, so it will always be very special to me. Thank you all very much for sharing and allowing me to relive those memories. ❤️

Happy to hear that you had fun at Hanna Park dispite the cold spell. It's a great place to ride bicycles on the roads under the tree canopy. As you found out, weekends are crowed for all activities, but the park is delightful any time of year. Everyone seems to love to share this beautiful park and very popular for bike riders especially those hitting the trails. Did you do any off-roading with your bicycles? We only did that once because we had to cross a very scary spot near a steam on one part of the trail that we choose. We're in the older adult category, so we found that we can have as much fun and are more comfortable on the roads with our bikes. Stay well and happy travels.

Hannah park is a decent campground, the long term RVers are very friendly & social. BUT like your lady said.. the bathrooms need some love. Also I’ve camped at the site right next to the guard gate before & witnessed that gate bar get ran into several times from people trying to not go one car at a time 😬 lol check out little talbot next time!

Oh, and we bought a house in Orange Park, just south if Jacksonville. One if the selling points was a beautiful orange tree. Well after closing, we went to our new home and picked oranges. SOUR!! The first thing we did was cut that darn tree down. Still own the house, but we are in Colorado until we go full time in our rv in May.

Those oranges on the tree, sometimes they are sour and sometimes sweet as honey. Always always try it. That was cute when Maggie was skidding on her butt trying to slow down.

Hanna Park is Awesome. Being a born and raised Floridian, I cherish campgrounds in Florida that are on/near the beach, have nice shade and does not cost over a $100.00 a night to stay there. I know they exist but Hanna is one of the better ones in that even when it is busy you do not feel like you are standing on one another to enjoy it. Great video and thanks for sharing!

I carry a very small weed blower underneath my 2018K bed. Quick and easy to blow off leaves, etc. No rake needed.

Hi Sandra. Sorry it took so long to answer you. No right now the Travato has just G (corner bed) and K (twin beds) floorplans. The Revel has a rear bed that Sirius side to side. You'll see in an upcoming episode that we have a love/hate relationship with the K beds. Old backs and not having a real mattress can be an issue.

VAN TREKKING lifestyle Thank you! We LOVE our T so much! We learned quickly at 15 degrees last night to switch the heat source over to gas. Woke at 2 am and switched over to mix 2 because it was smoking warm in the coach. Need a couple mods done such as the curtain to block off the cab air. Forecast is 4 degrees tomorrow night so we’ll see how that goes. haha

Thanks for another great Florida video. I had recommended Hanna Park, because I've heard good things about it, but I've never actually camped there. It's a good alternative when Fort Clinch and Little Talbot Island are booked up. I'll check it out this summer when I plan to be in North Florida again. As always, looking forward to your next video, and probably another option for me to stay on my next trip to FL. I'm very curious about the free boondocking at the Water Management areas; I've visited one outside Tallahassee on a day trip back in my university days (late 80s) at FSU ... near water-filled sink holes.

You are correct it is a good alternative for a place to stay that seems to have availability in the winter. We did boondock a lot last year in Florida, but not so much this year. The online water management sites can be a little confusing. It has the texture of clams. But I had the same response when I saw my first calamari with the tentacles. I didn't eat them at first either...now...down the hatch!

Maggie is a rescue, so the breed is anyone’s best guess. The vet says she is part Boarder Terrier, we are not sure about the other parts. She is a great traveling pup and she bring so much joy to our lives.
