My Wife and I visited Fort Myers 4 different times. We loved it so much. I see so many of the places we stayed. The streets we walked together, the beach we sat on. The pier and the restaurants. I have a huge lump in my throat as i watched this. She passed away almost 4 years ago. Her Spirit was present as i watched. She loved this little piece of paradise ! I know Fort Myers will be back to it's full glory in the near future. I pray for all those that were affected. Take heart and move forward. Much Love...

Lived on beach 5 yrs behind Beach Pub. 2008-2012 wish you would have showed that area, but you just keep going over same area. But it was good footage just wanted see old stomping grounds. God bless all whom lost everything. Born and raised 63 yrs here my HOMETOWN Beach was my escape place. Now it's gone 😔 breaks my heart ❤️ but believe if God doesn't return it will be better than ever!!!!!

@@Twins0302 I don’t wipe out memories! But you say it like it’s a birthday party, all of us will still remember. The hurricane wiped out decades of history, many many businesses which meant everything to some families! It’s nice that you are going to keep memories but this isn’t a situation that you go over like a doctor’s visit or an appointment at the dentist. This is just devastating and heartbreaking. And even if they are building it new and better and more modern, it will never be the same! And no memorie, good or bad, will bring this back

We were there 3 weeks before all this … as my husband drove us over the bridge and away from the beach for the last time, I turned back to look and made the comment “Good-bye, Fort Meyers Beach. I will always love you.” Such an odd statement, we both thought, as it spoke of a finality yet we were hoping to move here for retirement. As devastating as this is. The ocean will wash out all the silt on the ocean floor, the water will clear up, all the sand on the streets will get put back on the beach, the power will come back, men will replace and rebuild all that has been destroyed. Floridians will start making new memories to replace the one's they lost. The sand on the beach will be groomed and by the time the water gets warm next spring, and you can swim, things will look much different than they do right now. This place will be built back stronger!

The waters on FMB are naturally tannin-laced colors. Never Blue tropical colors. The reason is the Calossahatchee river drains just north of the island, and the gulf currents in that area are southerly, pulling the brackish waters of the river past FMB. The waters are absolutely dirty from the debris and run-off. The runoff will continue for months as the interior of FL drains to Lake O and is released down the Caloosahatchee.
@paulsanguinetti144
@paulsanguinetti144 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonmohoney7574 LOL no. People tend to focus on the shoreline, but the reality is the storm, Like Irma, is far-reaching. The amount of rain inland will play a large factor in water quality. The salinity levels are going to be off for a while as water runs off from the Kissimmee River basin into Lake O. That is released into the Caloosahatchee. Thankfully, more water is being released into the everglades, but not really enough to make a difference yet. We will most likely see algae blooms, and red tide early 2023.

I've been vacationing in FMB for a few years and as I was close to retirement, I was considering selling my house in the frozen North and moving there. I got married in 2020 and last year in 2021 brought my new wife down to see the area a couple times. She loved it and was quite excited with the idea. We were looking at manufactured home parks and right after coming home last December, one of the parks we had been looking at was hit by the tornado that went through Ft Myers. Mobile homes turned over on the news. We decided that despite the extra cost, we'd look for a regular house. Well, the hurricane the whole idea to rest. I hope the folks there recover soon. I understand many didn't have insurance for a hurricane so they've lost everything.

I have been to Fort Myers many tiimes. It is a wonderful place. I am sure the residents will do what Americans always do. They will rebuild the city and surrounding communities. Hopefully, those in charge will insist on design and construction standards that will better prepare the community for the next big storm.

Clean up continues but maybe in the rebuilding of this area…think about circular (round) structures. Flat faced structures do not withstand cat 5 hurricanes. Set a new standard for safety. Round cement block buildings. There’s a reason light houses last hundreds of years.

At 5:50 that looks like a beach sand reclamation project. I'd like to see more about how the debris is filtered out and how, when and where the cleaned sand gets returned to the beach.

There is a clip from one of the local news stations that shows the process they are using. They are screening all the debris out before dumping the sand back on the beach.

They are going to need all the sand they can get seeing how far it got blown. They may also have to dredge somewhere to get even more sand to do a proper reclamation.

The sand is still filthy. Look at the "cleaned" sand. It is still brown. Our sand was white. My pool water is black and looks and smells like gasoline and oil.1 month later and I still cannot get anyone to come out and help with my pool. I have a washing machine, a lawn mower, an air conditioner, doors and lumber from the cottages behind me are all in my pool. Pools are not covered by any of my 3 policies that I pay for so I am responsible for paying for it to be cleaned. So I am supposed to believe with all the oil, fuel, debris, dead animals, human remains, raw sewage, etc., they can just grind it up and it will be cleaned and sanitized?

There should be more videos that show to the wider extent of how vast an area has been effected, to be fair others include other areas just as hard hit yet no real "fly over's". Are there area's that are not allowing aircraft to document other than Fort Myers Beach. Not that your videos fall short or lack importance on the contrary but can one barrier island's trauma tell the story of the many who would like the world to know how thier recovery has trended?
@michaelwutka9714
@michaelwutka9714 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, your video does an excellent job of showing the recovery progress. But I commented yesterday when viewing your flying over affected areas offered an exclucive drone video. And while another posted video the camera showed a drone coursing over Fort Myers Beach. As if by design began to listen as he narrated semmingly as scripted described how federal guidelines prevent the taking of videos to post and where each video posted on youtube were liable to a $5,000 fine. Furthermore, he stated" hopefully he procured the proper permits to legally opperate a drone beyond the property margins you own.
