I’ve flown the RV 12 a bunch. It is a great little plane, the controls are well ballanced between roll and pitch and the bubble canopy is great for visibility. . Two things to watch for on that plane; check the wing attachments during checkout since they are removable and any fuel leaks since the fuel tank is inside the passenger compartment.

As an experimental, you don’t need any certification to work on it, however you do need one to do an annual. I have to agree that owning a plane is wonderful when you want to fly whenever you desire. I ended up purchasing a Cessna 162 for a song. Best decision I’ve ever made. Enjoy that beautiful RV!

@@SoloRenegade Yes, that is the term they use in the experimental realm, but it's every 12 months (annually), so most still refer to it as such. The exception to the course is if you built the plane, you can get a repairman certificate just for that plane and do the inspection.

E-AB or S-LSA categories your statement is true, E-LSA is possible for owner to perform CI providing one takes the 16 hour repairman class. RV-12's are more frequently E-AB, but some are S-LSA factory built and converted over to E-LSA. There are three possible certificates for these aircraft and ratings to perform CI differ for each.

My 2012 RV-12 912 ULS cruises at 120-122 kts and still has great climb performance. Your prop is set a bit too fine if you are getting only 112. Run the engine at about 5450 for cruise, it was designed for that. On the ground with brakes held and full throttle, a prop adjusted for cruise will yield an engine rpm if about 4950.

Nice modern bird with the canopy view, mogas munching engine. Regarding lead fuel, miracle just occurred that G100UL is approved for use to replace all 100LL. Just a matter of doing it now. I think all planes should go composite instead of sheet and rivet. Cowling is composite anway and several other parts so it just doesn't make sense to hold onto the form limitations and metal fatigue of sheet. Both wing and fuselage can be made so much cleaner, faster and even lighter.
@SoloRenegade2 жыл бұрын
why composite? it can actually be heavier than aluminum for light planes, requires lots of finishing work, and has UV exposure issues. Aluminum is hard to beat for light aircraft. Aluminum is also recyclable, and composites are not. And for LSA, you can't fly any faster than it already does.
@DanFrederiksen2 жыл бұрын
@@SoloRenegade what finishing work. a laser on a robot can cut out the pieces in a minute. versus awful sheet and rivet which is a flimsy meccano set of endless drilling and ugly rivets and heinous shape restrictions. prone to invisible metal fatique that is fatal. Composites are generally considered immortal, even if the resin should critically degrade over time it would be very visible and only lose strength over decades. There is no UV issue unless bare. with composite you can make it one big part, one job. no places it can fail. Nothing to ponder in the certification process. And of course nothing beats well made carbon fiber for weight and form freedom. It can be a single shell, no spars or bulkheads. sheet planes are always ugly, except jets where they somehow form the sheet, all the best GA planes are composite. Especially for pressurization, a single one piece shell is ideal. No looming metal fatigue.

The gear is a bit stronger on the new iS model, however they just released an optional service bulletin for those who want to upgrade their legacy model to the strength of the new design.
