What do you think of the D3? Would you trust it? Bravo Golf Timepiece Affiliate link: www.flybravogolf.com/FloridaFlying

As a backup, yes. It could save a life.

I was one of the primary software developers on the D3. It's cool to see people getting real world usefulness out of our products.

That is so cool! I love my entire Dynon system. It’s reliable, simple to use, and more affordable than Garmin. Thank you for you hard work on the D3. It would be cool if it could give an attitude without GPS, but the chances are low of losing my panel, losing GPS, and being in the clouds at the same time

@@FloridaFlying Due to forward momentum affecting the accelerometers we need to know how fast you are going to calculate an accurate attitude. The only source of speed for the D3 is GPS. So without it we red ex the attitude screen as the attitude displayed in that situation is potentially incorrect. In this mode the D3 should downgrade to only showing the instruments we can trust, which I think are the turn rate gauge and slip ball. Not very helpful but better then nothing. This is also the reason why the D3 is officially not for use in IFR conditions, it very heavily realizes on GPS for most of the information it displays and that is not guaranteed to be available.

@K3rb3ros that makes sense. Yeah you’re right the turn rate and ball slip/skid indicator work without GPS. Either way, the D3 is the best completely independent backup on the market. You did an excellent job and I absolutely love it.

Solid info. Nice landing brother! On my PPL. We need content like this. Nice watches too 👍

Just realized I saw you taxi by me at KDED today! I'm a lineman there. Small world! Recognized the N number :)

Oh cool! Yeah I flew over there to buy some oil for the plane. It was a beautiful day

Noticed the Florida state decal on the tail. Hope to see you around again man!@@FloridaFlying

Wow. I came into this with some skepticism, but I am glad I paid attention. Although, I can get the same functionality out of my Stratus receiver and phone, in a real emergency this would be so much easier to deal with. Definitely looking at this for our club’s XC cruiser that still runs a vacuum system.

This would be a perfect backup especially for aircraft with a vacuum system

Maybe just one more :) neat enough that they have synth vision although I don't care for the cartoonish green terrain everybody uses, that's such artificial horizon legacy thinking. MS flight sim is synthetic vision. It looks just slightly better. The more recognizable the more calming and enabling it is. Seeing as display tech costs next to nothing today, it nicely demonstrates how easy it is for them to make all the functionality, of which synthetic vision by far is the most taxing. So if they can put that in a 900$ device that's how you can know the rest is robbery.

Do you add pitot heat? I’m looking into a rv12 for ifr training. Thanks for sharing your journey.
@FloridaFlying7 ай бұрын
I do not have pitot heat. It actually isn’t required for IFR but you have to be very careful with icing conditions. I plan to avoid ice like the plague, which is usually easy to do in FL.

I assembled a stratux that had AHRS for about $300 that could theoretically provide a similar backup though I’ve not tried it
@FloridaFlying7 ай бұрын
I have also built a stratux and I found the AHRS to be pretty unreliable. However this was one of the first AHRS chips available for it so it could have improved since then
