I live just out side Austin and we have coyotes, possums, roadrunners, armadillos, raccoons, wild peacocks and snakes. Not to mention turkey vultures and hawks. And deer.

"Y'all" has all but been replaced by the more Midwestern/West Coast "You guys" in most urban areas of Texas. Most of the newer arrivals actually get rather annoyed when they hear "y'all." They often don't understand exactly how the contraction is applied in daily speech. I say "y'all" all the time just to help keep it alive. Probably less than 5% of Texans use "howdy" as a greeting anymore. That was more a signature Texan/Oklahoman expression than "y'all."
