What an absolutely beautiful, beautiful sampler. Your stitching is gorgeous. I am fascinated with your personal story of her. You said that you started her on March 17th. That is St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick is an Irish saint in the Catholic Church. It is very significant that you started her on St. Patrick's feast day and ended on Christmas Day! The sampler is just breathtakingly beautiful! I would say Bridgett is quite pleased with your work!!! What a blessing!

Thank you so much for the compliment! I honestly don’t recall deliberately starting Bridget’s sampler on Mar. 17th. Although, it’s possible I did. My connection with her developed as the sampler developed.

Your 'Bridget' is exquisite! Obviously worked with such love, and am not surprised you felt her nearby. It's been an amazing journey - thank you for taking us along. I love using a laying tool, and think they make a wonderful difference. There are several kinds - from ornate and expensive to very pointy to more rounded. I seem to prefer the less pointed. Maybe because I don't want the grandkids to hurt themselves! Anyway, there are two I am most fond of. One is an old-fashioned pill counting tool that was given to me so many years ago by a national teacher in the American Needlepoint Guild. I am sorry I can't find it with an internet search. It is light in hand, has two differently shaped ends and is stainless steel. The other was something I discovered by accident. The inexpensive 'SewEZ Fingerthing' (Superior Threads) works wonderfully as a laying tool if you turn it backwards on your finger. I can't find it, but Liz of 'Country Stitchers' showed it some time ago (they have so many Gadget Corner tools). I'd already been using it for laying instead of seam pressing so it was kind of a thrill to see Liz demonstrate it. Anyway! There is a laying tool for anyone's preference and budget. Happy journey!

I just found your Floss tube for the first time this evening. I loved your experience with the Bridget Power sampler. It is so beautiful and I hope you can find out more about her. I have done so much genealogy on my family and I know how hard it can be with so few details. I’m in Missouri too, St.Charles, and am glad we are just dealing with about 8 inches of snow, so far, but no ice. Have a beautiful stitchy warm evening and I look forward to seeing more of your floss tubes!

It's always a treat to watch one of your videos. I stitched the Beatrix Potter sampler 15 years ago or so. It was an on-line stitch along through a blog where the participants could post their progress. It started as a 1 year thing, but I was on the 2 year plan. I can't remember who was selling the chart, but it was a download. Mine is done with mostly autumnal colors, not monochrome and has lots of personalization for my family. Your finish of Bridget is beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on this newest sampler. Have a wonderful time at Sampler Symposium.

Jackie, this floss tube was once again a beautiful, calming, inspiring, relaxing visit for a cold, quiet Sunday afternoon. I checked in on a storm chaser in KS/MO, and saw you were in the storm path. I don’t believe the storm will be over before I finish watching you ❄️🤯 I was thrilled to see your finish of your kindred soul, Bridget Powers. It is so beautiful, and it will be great to see how you frame it after she travels to Sampler Symposium at the Attic in AZ. I am not at all surprised you felt Bridget with you as you put in the last stitches. You have been immersed in finding out about Bridget, and spent 9 months stitching this beautiful reproduction of her work, making a couple of changes that were from your heart and in your artist’s eye; without losing any of the beauty and meaning of her work. I imagine the thrill that young girl would have that someone would find her work worthy of being recreated 184 years later. What a wonderful way to honor her, I’m proud of you and this beautiful work of art you have created. 💛 I am so glad you decided to join the flosstube family, and even happier that I have followed you from the beginning of this sharing adventure. I have learned about Bridget and feel like you have introduced me to a wonderful young girl. You have enriched my life with the stitching you do, with the research, with the color selections, and your dedication. The fact that you have ventured into having more than one project lets me know you can be influenced, a little, by taking a break from what you are passionate about and consider what else might speak to you. What might also might stir you to think ‘I need to do that.’ Today as I watched and thought about your SAL of #ba4seasonssal, it occurred to me that I have a couple sets of charts that speak to the seasons, not the girls, but that I could start on the solstices and equinoxes. I am going to take a look at that. The idea is so appealing, but the Barbara Anna girls do not speak to me. I’m am always aware of the solstices and equinoxes in the rhythm of life. 🤔 Your new start spoke to me also. My Christmas was extremely low key, and comfy clothes, and reflection; and I finished my first Quaker project. I love the symmetry of the medallions, the monochromatic floss; and am eager to start another Quaker, friend. I have a friend that has been integral in my life since I was 13, almost 69 years; we traveled, we have escaped to the lake, we have cooked, we have spent days where we are together, but don’t have to chatter, we’ve moved furniture and gotten it stuck in a doorway, we’ve laughed and cried, and laughed until we’ve cried, we’ve been caregivers for one another, she is my 3 girls’ godmother, she is my sister from another mother. You and your New Year friends sound like us, and you made me laugh when you said you had to frog a few stitches on your new start😅. I have 2 books to look for, I love recommendations. The thought that our body is always trying to heal is powerful, and that the language we use affects what we feel… the war words of facing illnesses needs to change. I must look at the SAL starting Friday, I might try to join you. I love that you have intentions, not resolutions. And I loved your glasses and sweater were matching! I’m hoping you put in your notes the reference for the beautiful Irish Blessing. I couldn’t write fast enough and I was at the very bottom of my third page of notes 📝 🤣. Sorry, this is long, I enjoy every moment I am watching you. Thank you again for your very thoughtful flosstube. Enjoy your trip to AZ, have a fantastic time sharing Bridget, enjoy your stitches, and blessings to you. Peg 🤗🙏🏻🪡💛🕊️

Hi Jackie. Thank you for another lovely Flosstube. About floche, you may find it is much too fragile for cross stitch use. DMC used to make it in beautiful colors and it was used mostly for fine embroidery and sometimes for smocking designs. DMC now makes it in just a few colors. It’s very expensive (about 5x’s the cost of DMC cotton floss). You might want to try white flower thread instead. It’s about the same weight as floche, but is much nicer to crossstitch. The flower thread is a bit more than DMC, but less than half the cost of floche. Also flower thread is equal to about 1 1/2 strands of DMC floss. A Trolley Needle is used the same w1ay a laying tool is used. Instead of gripping it between your fingers, the shaft (usually metal) is attached the a ring like shape that fits over your finger. I’ll try to attach a photo of my trolley needle for you. The reason either of these tools helps white stand out is because you place the shaft of the tool at an angle and stitch ‘over’ the shaft for each crossstitch. That shaft keeps the floss slightly above the linen surface so the stitch has a very slight dimension. It also keeps the stitches very even. Will it make your white stitches show up better? I think there are many variables here based on each persons stitching style and skill. 😅

Your floss tube videos are always interesting and inspiring. I have the original version of the Beatrix Potter sampler, it was published by Jacqueline Holdsworth of Needleprint. She reproduced many beautiful Quaker samplers and published some wonderful books on samplers. The information on the original version is mostly about Beatrix Potter, but it does state that the sampler is not an Ackworth sampler. Two excellent books on Quaker Samplers are: Quaker School Girl Samplers from Ackworth by Carol Humphrey, published by Needleprint in 2006, and Threads of Useful Learning, Westtown School Samplers by Mary Uhl Brooks, published by Westtown School in 2015. I think you can still get the Westtown book thru the school’s website.

Happy New Year! Your Bridget Powers is gorgeous! It’s fascinating to see the relationship you developed with her. So heart warming. On the subject of Sarah from across the pond - she is to “blame” for a few of my wips this year! My arm is apparently turned pretty easy as I started the new year with 45 wips!! I guess I will be adding a new wip on the 10th for the Across the Pond - imagine that miss Sarah is to blame for that too! 😂

Hi Jackie. I'm not at all surprised Bridget was with you while stitching. You know more about her than any other living person. Can't wait to hear what you learn in Ireland.

I watched today and had been contemplating Brigette since I’ve seen her ❤ I might stitch her but have so many in the lineup I’m not sure when. I am going to Sampler Symposium but I am not sure I’ll come say Hi as I am rather hesitant as most of the time Floss tubers can get Fan Girled quite a bit and while it can be flattering it’s also intrusive. See you soon though

I am about to start Bridget Powers, thank you for exposing me to her. Yours turned out so beautiful- I really hope you go to Ireland, maybe even find her grave? I can’t wait to start my journey, thanks again

I too feel a sadness that you have finished Bridget. It's almost as if her story has not yet finished. Good luck with trying to find answers.

I have some info on a Bridget Power 1827. I know there are many Bridget Powers, but she is the only one I found with a birth date in 1827. She was born in Islandkane, County Waterford. listed in a 1901Census at 74 years, Roman Catholic, head of Family, not married, housekeeper, speaks Irish and English C.Waterford.This is from Family Search church records and census. Hopefully this helps. Your work is beautiful and I know Bridget loves it!

Absolutely beautiful finish!! Is it possible that the “rug” pattern is a clue to what church she attended?

Bridget is beautiful and I am still working on her. You also introduced me to Julia Rachel De La Marie. I haven’t seen much of her on your videos. Would love to see her since I plan on stitching her when I receive the chart. How is that going?

Good morning Jackie, just love watching your videos. So wise and sensible stitcher. But I tried to get the Barbara Anna chart light. Not the smartest when it comes to bringing up things. Could you help me bring up her free chart “light”. Much appreciated if you could. All the Best of Health, Happiness and lots of Stitching in 2025!!!
