After watching a couple of videos of other people losing everything.I am now paranoid and like I said I backed up after literally every stitching session to google drive. It only takes a few minutes and saves my sanity. Good luck and I am really hoping you can get it back.

Very sorry this has happened to you. Don't be too hard on yourself stitchy crap happens to everyone. It will work out better than you think. Take it one step at a time you'll get past this soon enough. You have helped other by sharing your experience. I am a paper pattern only stitcher. However things can and do still go wrong with paper patterns. My "backup" system is as soon as I order a pattern (yes I do love technology) it is downloaded, two full copies are printed (even the huge ones), one is stored in a binder (the backup copy) and the other is the working copy. It might be overkill but the thought of losing my patterns makes me sick. Thanks for the video.

I keep all of my PDFs separate from my Pattern Keeper, so I haven't had to worry about losing the PDFs. However, last year my device that had Pattern Keeper died, so I lost all the progress (about 20 patterns). In the end I gridded my stitched pieces using some red plastic line and marked up the patterns in Pattern Keeper again. It surprisingly didn't take that long (and I do a lot of BAPs).

I'm so sorry you lost so many PDFs and all that progress, I really hope you can get it all back. I think HAED charges you $10 per chart to get them back if you send them your order numbers, but anything that's been retired is gone forever. I've lost my progress twice, pre Pattern Keeper. Once because ezPDF decided to delete all my files and once because I dropped my tablet in water. Luckily, the way I stitch, despite being cross country, makes it very easy to mark off my progress again and it usually doesn't take me more than a couple of hours per pattern, which is probably why I don't export my progress more often. I have never lost a chart, though. I always download them on my computer and upload to Google Drive right away as well as put them on a USB-stick so I have them in 3 different locations. I have a few retired charts that I'm terrified of losing, so I'm being extra safe. I did back up my progress now thanks to you. I try to do it every few months or if I've made a lot of progress on a chart.

I don't use pattern keeper anymore. I just convert all my patterns to pdf (including the paper charts I'm stitching) and mark my patterns on Adobe acrobat. I have several copies of my patterns in several devices including an external hard drive. So, should I lose my current wip pattern, I can use another device or retrieve from other devices and just look for where I'm at. But backing up is always a good thing. Technology is really not stable. And yes, to ASSUME is to make an ASS of U and ME. Stay safe Emily 💕
