Watching your video made me giggle and smile. Especially when you would see something in your box of shame! I did learn quite a bit, too, regarding organizing. I got some ideas, too. Thank you for making me smile. It’s just what the doctor ordered. 😁

Hi Cathy! I enjoyed your video. I store my floss just like you do. I separate my fabric into plastic IRIS scrap book cases. They are 14"x14"x3". They stack very nicely. I separate them according to size too. Count and color are flexible options, but you can't get around size. I keep Aida in a separate case that is a little larger. I have one case for smaller pieces that I use for smalls or ornaments.

Hi, thanks so much for showing how you store your fabric and floss. I enjoyed your video. I just took up cross stitching and watching your video is much like having a kind friend explain things.. You show that it doesn't have to be perfect to work and if it works for you that's all that counts!

I agree I use bobbins. They look so pretty. I embroider rather than x-stitch. So DMC and Anchor are all in together organised by colour. I have my wools ana silks separated in different boxes. ❤❤❤

Don't worry Cathy, We all have floss faux pas..lol Right now I have two small totes. one for DMC and the other for fancy floss. I also keep my DMC bobbinated in a double sided box that I purchased at Hobby Lobby. For fabric, I was keeping in one of those 3 drawer rolling carts, but not it is with a pattern or packed away in storage. Thanks for sharing your storage ideas. Jacque

Hi Cathy! You are so entertaining! I had to stay up late - waiting for some laundry to dry so I found your video! I loved it! I chuckled at your mishmash ball of floss. I was bobbinating today and I do have one of those floss balls! I put my fabric in plastic bags and in a large drawer. If I know the project- I'll write the project on the bag with the fabric. I must see more of your past videos! Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed it!

I am almost completely caught up on your wonderful videos. I watch 3 older ones, then 1 new one... I am almost through the C’s of the Flosstubers I am subscribed to! I don’t have much fancy floss but I bobbinate all of my DMC stock and keep them in labeled floss boxes. Whatever works for you is right for you! Happy stitching!

I agree about the bobbins for DMC. I’ve had mine that way for 40 years and they are so easy to find and small to store. I don;t have a lot of extra floss. My hand dyed flosses are in floss away bags on rings hanging from my pegboard. Not sure if you realize or not but some of the o,dear colours are ever so slightly different than their new version. Not all but some. I found out the hard way. You could overdyed some of that weird silk floss in your floss box of shame. It’s easy to dye and the outcomes would be great.
@craftycatstitcher66585 жыл бұрын
I used to work at a cross stitch store and noticed that the overdyed threads could look different from one shipment to the next! Even some DMC looks different from what they looked like years ago. Thank you for watching my video!

CraftyCat Stitcher oh yes I’ve run into that with overdyed floss often but didn’t realize that the old DMC would be different until I found out the hard way.

I have a box of miscellaneous stuff too, but I think of mine as a box of stitching treasures! I am still learning and experimenting to find the best way to store my threads and fabrics, so I always enjoy seeing how others manage their’s. I really enjoyed this glimpse into your storage methods, thank you for sharing! 🧵🙂 Meline

Loved your video Cathy! The Floss Box of Shame had me cracking up I will admit LOL ... I keep my fabrics in a filing cabinet and each drawer has a different count but I usually only stitch on 2 different counts of fabric so my little 2 drawer filing cabinet works for me ... What about keeping each different count of fabric in a different see thru bin so that way you could stack them to store ... Just an idea that popped into my head ... Looking forward to your next video as usual :)
@craftycatstitcher66585 жыл бұрын
That could work. I have some shallower cases that might be perfect for that, but they're in use and if I emptied them for fabric it would create a whole new organization issue! I'll have to see if I can get more. Thank you for watching!

Hi Cathy, I just finished stitching Petite Rainbow Row for my mother. I loved seeing what the large one looks like. It's going to be huge, but I like it! I'll be seeing Mom next week at a family reunion and will give her the framed piece then. She loves Charleston, so I'm sure it will bring back fond memories for her. Your floss and fabric tour was not at all boring. Even though I haven't got 1/10th the amount you do, my floss and fabric are outgrowing my current storage and it really helps to see what someone else does. Fabric can muddle along for a bit, but my floss is in dire need of help. I've been keeping the skeins in a plastic photo storage box. It's big, and has 16 smaller 4x6 boxes that slide into it.. I've got mine organized by color, but some of the boxes are overflowing and getting a little hard to close. I use Thread Drops for most projects, or a floss card for small jobs, but as heavy as they are, they do break down in time. So I'm thinking of switching to Annie's Keepers, because I love using Thread Drops and the Keepers are very similar. It's a dilemma for sure.

Hi Cathy....loved the video it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who has floss to organise it’s just finding the time or in my case the energy to do it ☺️I did buy a couple of twirling necklace stands to house them in numerical order it’s just getting around to doing it....i was really disappointed to see I’d missed purchasing a proper DMC rotating stand from gumtree for £10 that would of been much better but I missed out sadly so I’m left having to organise them on my necklace stands which I’m sure will be just as useful see you next time 😊

Hi Cathy, how are you doing today? As far as fabric storage - I've seen some stitchers who hang their fabrics on pant hangers and hang them in a closet. You could have several on one hanger. That way, they don't get wrinkled before you even start. I bobbinate and store floss like you do. So much easier to find things. I know it leaves a "kink" in the threads but I just lick 'em out! Storage is very subjective. I'm also a quilter and my preferred method is to wrap the fabric around foam core (dollar store - cheap) and hold it with two large paper clips OR a couple of elastics. These precious little bundles get put on open shelving and arranged by colour. Easy peasy to find what you're looking for. That eyesight thing you were talking about?? It's magic!! LOLOL I have a friend who had worn "coke bottle bottoms" for eons and in the past few years, she' actually been able to read without her glasses. Go figure!! LOVE< LOVE your miscellaneous floss box!! Tooooooo Funny, Cathy. Have a great day!!

Nice video. I think your fabric storage is fine. You have it by size and that’s what we need. In your thread misc bag, if you know that some of those threads are beautiful but you will just not use it, I would donate it. If you know someone that embroiders they might like those different kinds of threads. Maybe once in a while you will use one of this in a project but I would really trim down the misc. thanks!!

I enjoyed this video. I love seeing how others organize their stuff. I bobbinate and never had an issue with stitching with kinks from the folds and I bobbinate way tighter than you. All my over dye flosses are in bags and grouped together like yours. I love how you deal with the DMC overflow. I shove my extras in floss away bags grouped by numbers. I have 3 Art Bin 12x12 plastic bins in which I organize my fabric. I have one for linen, one for evenweave and one for misc over dyed. I am outgrowing the bins so I either need to upgrade or I need to stitch faster. I love you box of shame. You just need to Marie Kondo that box. I could tell you right off the top that there are several things you pulled out that can either be tossed or given away. Your worm like silk threads might be one of them. 🤣🤣🤣 You can do it!

Oh, no. You are not the only one who has a floss box of shame. Mine is where I just threw any off brands - JP Coats or Coats & Clark or whatever.. I inherited a bunch of floss from a friend of mine who was an avid stitcher and died. If I didn't know what it was I just threw it in the box. I am not ever going to sort it. Someone else can inherit it someday or maybe I will donate it to a thrift store. I hang all my fabric from pant hangers in one of my extra bedroom closets and I think it works pretty well for me but I don't know if it would work for everyone. I have a fair amount of fabric but I don't think I have a much as you do. I store all my DMC and fancy floss in floss away bags. DMC is separate from the fancy floss and in numeric order on several different rings. I like how your floss is organized but I am too lazy to bobbinate! I also started punching tags so when I take a floss and put it in a project, I write the name of the floss and which project it is in on the punched tag and hang the tag on the ring. That way if I am kitting up a project and have the floss in a different project I will know where it is. It seems to be working so far. Thanks for the tour of your fabric and floss! By the way... my birthday is next month too! - Connie
