Your mention of Cornish pasties at the top made me smile. My mother is from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan--affectionately called "Yoopers"--and the pasty is hugely popular there due to all of the miners who worked in the area during the "Copper Rush" days. We always have pasties when we visit there. Your little bird needle minder is just beautiful! So glad that Bertie's health scare came out well! Pets are the family we choose and I am glad he'll be alright. There are a few reasons given in scholarship as to why the American calendar starts on Sunday. Some resources will tell you it starts with the Romans, who named the days of the week after the planets, but started with the Sun. Hence, that is why SUN-day is the start of the week. Another explanation goes back to the Gregorian Calendar, which is derived from the Hebrew calendar. The Hebrew sabbath is on Saturday (technically sundown Friday to sundown Saturday) and the sabbath marks the end of the week. Therefore, Sunday marks the start of the week. In fact, the Israeli work week is Sunday-Thursday; we observed that every time I have excavated there. In short: religion is the reason almost ALL calendars start on a particular day of the week. Pretty fascinating stuff!

Here is the answer to the calendar question!! The Bible says that “very early on the first day of the week, the women came to the tomb, and the stone had been rolled away.” That first day is Sunday, and so our calendars start on Sunday! God rested on the Sabbath Day, but the Sabbath is Saturday! We try to confuse everybody!!! Loved your Bristols display and all your stitching necessities! ❤️ And such happy news about Bertie Boo! 🩵

I always enjoy the news you share about all things cross stitch and I’m especially happy to hear that Emeline Purnelle (sp?) is shipping this week from Acorns and Threads! The gorgeous roses in the center plus that lovely border will be the perfect sampler for me to stitch during September 2024! And I am using 100.3 silks on the called for fabric for the first time, so excited! Thank you for this beautiful sampler as a special edition purchase. Very good news about Bertie and he was in my prayers for a good report at the vet. 🙏❤️

Have fun at the golf event. I'd love a Cornish pasty, yum. Used to sell them (and eat them) years back when I worked behind the deli counter at a Europa store in Fulham Road, Chelsea. I think they came directly from Cornwall. Interesting about the way the UK does their calendars. Canada is the same as the US; we start the week with Sunday. I've always had calendars that run Sunday to Saturday. I thought it odd when I started seeing the weekends at the end. As others have commented, I think of Sunday as the first day of the week because of my Christain beliefs.

Nicola I bought a buffet server to house my humble collection of needlework supplies and two ottomans they double as extra seating my apartment is small it works for me and the server doubles as my tv stand. I have know ideas for you, but you I think you are right you need a room with shelves you have beautiful samplers and needlework supplies I would love to see a video when you are done❤

On the seventh day, God rested from His creation, and He commanded (through Moses) that we rest and keep that day holy. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ rose on the first day of the week, the day after the Sabbath. So Christian's celebrate Sunday as their holy day of worship, the first day of their week. Hi Nicola, Shabbat is the Hebrew word for Saturday. The seventh day is Shabbat. I didn’t know that the UK thinks that Sunday is the seventh day of the week. Good to see you and Bertie in your video today. I’m happy for you and your family that Bertie’s going to be just fine. We have a British shop and Pub near me that sells Pasties. My son likes them.
