Funny you ask, I stitch for enjoyment and as a meditation, so it doesn’t matter to me whether it is fully finished or not. It’s all about the process and love for the project. My interior design aesthetic is eclectic, so anything goes, even the grandchildren’s’ creations. ❤

Hi Amy, you know you asked a really good question about if a stitcher stitches to decorate their house …I stitch what I like what I love and I always intend to put it up in my house whether or not it matches my decor if I love it and I wanna look at it that’s what makes me happy..

I started out as a monogamous stitcher and now I’m totally promiscuous! I get a lot of joy out of all my projects. I like to stitch whatever takes my fancy. If it works in my space, I’ll frame and hang it. If not, I’ve started to do scrapbook finishes like Laura at Stitching by the Shore. Have a safe trip Amy, and Gary hope you get Captain America across the finish line!

Delightful, delightful! I want to see your pups in their raincoats! I bet they are the cutest in the land! I stitch some things with the intention to decorate with them, and some simply because I love it and it inspires me. I would imagine some of those things will never make it on a wall. And that is ok. 🩵

We had at least 20 people request a photo of them, and who are we to deny the world all the cuteness that lives with us? :) I hope you've been enjoying all this beautiful weather we've been having. Your Lady at the Met is looking so fabulous! As far as stitching goes, I do not stitch a pattern because I envision it as part of my decor; I stitch it because I love that particular pattern. But I'm also a process stitcher, not a progress stitcher, and that influences my choice of pattern.

Need to see the kids in their slickers! As for what I stitch, it is a mixture of gifts, for my own decor, a few small commissions and many pieces that I just fall in love with. Laura, from Stitching by the Shore, has a neat idea for small to medium designs that she has no wall space for. She has two size related scrapbooks that she is using to showcase these designs. On some, she includes related photos, etc. Great and meaningful presentation that should remain a family heirloom. Hope you have a successful trip and Gary gets some stitching time in to meet his goals while you are away. Hi to Sophie & Bear, the new fashion setters of Seattle.

The people have been heard. We'll plan to share a picture of the fur babies in their slickers on our next video. They deserve their moment in the spotlight! :) Up until a couple years ago, I always gifted my stitchings away, but I've been very greedy with them for the last 5 years. For the most part, I've found a place for everything in my home decor, but I find that often the things I love to stitch and am drawn to aren't the things that will look best with the style of our home. I feel like I need a room just to display all the wonderful pieces that don't fit so I can enjoy them, especially because I have chosen not to start a number of designs that I love simply because I can't see myself putting them on my walls. It would be a shame to miss working on them!

I have "themes" for the decor in each of my rooms (seasons in my living room, violets and blue birds for my bedroom, etc) and I only choose patterns that will fit into those themes to stitch with the intention of displaying them. It helps me to not over buy and get overwhelmed with all of the beautiful patterns. Safe travels!

What a great question! I love to stitch but I tend to stitch things that I want to have on my walls. Having said that, if I love a piece, I will find a spot for it. I also have a metal tree on one wall that I change out seasonally with stitched ornaments and I also stitch a lot of Christmas ornaments and always find room on the tree for them. Thanks as always and happy stitching!

You have really made me think.🤔🤔 I would say I pick things I want displayed but judging by my pile of finished things I must just like stitching them. I am definitely a promiscuous stitcher. You are doing fab, Gary. You are both hilarious. We tried our dog in a rain jacket once. She looked miserable and wouldn't move. She just gets wet now or refuses to leave the house 😂
@globetrottingstitcher Жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with stitching for the simple joy of stitching, even if the finishes never get displayed! I love that you're a promiscuous stitcher. I often wonder how many of "your kind" there are outside of the folks who make Flosstube videos. It almost seems like making videos turns people into promiscuous stitchers. I know I was always monogamous myself until Flosstube influenced me. I've managed to keep my WIP count at a level that lets me consistently work on everything, but I don't have room to add anything else if I want to get things done on a regular basis. Your poor pupper! Sophie and Bear like their slickers because they associate them with walks, but if I try to put pajamas or a sweater on Sophie, she looks miserable. We sometimes will put a sweater on her on cold winter nights to help her stay warm at bedtime (Bear has a double coat and doesn't get as cold). I'll inevitably wake up and see her at the foot of the bed with the sweater half off. I've finally given up. :)
@stychaddict4499 Жыл бұрын
My goodness I've just found out I'm promiscuous! But I'm honestly a monogamous girl at heart (with a bit on the side to keep from boredom). As far as what I stitch goes - I do what I like, whether it fits with my design aesthetic or not. I have no talent with interior design, so if I love a piece, it will go on my wall 🤣🤣. Those raincoats for Sophie and Bear are the cutest. Thanks for the video you guys!

I had a feeling you were promiscuous, but I didn't want to call you out like that. LOL! It's been a long time since I was monogamous myself, but once I started dabbling with other "loves", I was never going to stay faithful to just one piece. :) I hope you are well and that your mum continues to recover well. Sending lots of good thoughts for your dad next week. Please keep us posted!

I stitch what I want unless my daughter starts something and I need to finish it for her. My problem is I have 10 to 15 arts I do when possible. I finished 4 quilts last year and 2 cross stitches. I am always grateful that there are families that like my work. My son thinks it is pretty but not worth much, but he has a $1,000.00 dollar pillow in needle point and there are quilts 2 of them and bobbin lace, knitting, crochet, and painting so he has enough forever. My oldest daughter has the most of my paintings, and it is her that I finish things for. Thanks for your interest. I have about a foot of an Armenian rug to finish if I get well.

Lovely progress on all the pieces you both are doing. I tend to stitch pieces that will go with my decor which is rather eclectic. PS : I would love to see a phot of your dogs modeling their new rain slickers.

I was waiting for cute dogs in rain slickers picture 😕 To answer your question, I choose projects that I like to stitch. Majority of my finishes are in an artist tube in my closet and a few have been turned into project bags

Hey you! Love your beautiful designs and that you are expanding the options and aesthetic of our stitchy community! It's wonderful to celebrate more cultures and traditions, and I appreciate that you share yours with us! I sometimes find it hard to stay on top of turning my finished into FFOs. Even doing it myself, it's not cheap, and it can be time consuming. You've had a ton of finishes in a pretty short period! You should be very proud of having completed that many! I have yet to turn any of mine into a project bag, but it's on my to do list for sure. :)

I am a promiscuous progress stitcher, so I'm not looking for a finish to hang on my wall. Do I want a finish? Absolutely. Once I finish will it get framed and hung? Meh, maybe. Most of my finishes are hanging in the closet on those clampy suit hangers, although I may have to break down and buy an under the bed box before too long. I currently have Villa Mirabilia at Rensel Studios. It should be ready in October. I am working on a HAED (Keto by Annie Stegg) which is massive. I'm on page 25 out of 80 something. That one I am stitching with the intention to frame and I have the perfect spot picked out. The other 99% of my projects will hang out in the closet together or maybe possibly a few will get fully finished and displayed. Finishing is hard and expensive and I don't have enough of a desire most of the time to put in the time and effort. Plus, finishing takes away from stitching time. You are both young and you have a ton of stitching years left. You only have so many walls. It would be a shame to avoid stitching things you love just because you can't hang them.
@globetrottingstitcher Жыл бұрын
Oh gosh! I can't wait to see Villa Mirabilia when you get her back! Jill Rensel and her team do amazing work! I like the way you think about stitching things you love even if you never put them on display, and the older I get, the more I think you're right about that. :)
