Great tutorial. I've stitched on Aida exclusively, but after watching you stitch on linen, I'm confident about giving it a shot. Thank you for demonstrating the specialty stitches on this great sampler.

Thank you so much for showing these stitch’s from left to right. I stitch in hand using the Victoria stitch and left to right is usual for me 1 stitch at a time. The majority of written instructions are opposite of this. Thank you! I’ll buy the charts for those specialty stitch instructions!

OM Gosh Cathy, you are amazing. I’ve been stuck using Aida as I have not figured how to use Lugana even thought I’ve watch several videos but I start and get lost. UNTIL this video and maybe the angle you did this but I have finally, finally almost done with a small on 28 count Lugana. My comfort was 18 count Aida and now after your amazing tutorial on specialty stitches, I graduated. And my stitch had nothing to do with specialty stitches. Thank you.

My mom always uses pearl cotton #12 for lacing her pieces... so if you don't have upholstery thread... you could use your extra pearl cotton for lacing:-)
@HandsOnDesign
@HandsOnDesign 6 ай бұрын
Yes, that works great too! I find it best for smaller pieces. I used to use it when lacing for framing. The cotton has a bit more 'give'. It's always good in a pinch tho!

Great job. I have done years of needlepoint and used many specialty stitches. Very similar to aida. I'm old and linen too difficult to see. Also similar to crewel. Maybe a brighter thread would be easier to see for the geezers. I liked that you were to the point. 10+

I got the fabric to do all three at the pep rally from Stephanie. Today I bought the DMC thread and can you believe that I cannot find way I stashed the rest of pearl cotton #12, I put it in solace that I could find it and who knows where it is. I am going to have to buy another spool. I am sure as soon as I get home with the new one, I will find the old one

Loved the tutorial. I love the waste knot idea. Now I want to try specialty stitches. After stitching for thirty years but never having anyone teach me I’m learning how to clean up my backside of my stitching the last few years and learning new stuff. You’re one of my favorite designers and I watch your flosstubes all the time but just discovered you have a bunch of tutorial. Say what? Well guess how I’m spending my weekend. Haha.

Compliment and a QUESTION- Much appreciated tutorial on several specialty stitches for your new cross stitch series "FOLK" inspired. Your step by step on camera examples with ongoing commentary are priceless and I learned so much. Thank you! PS...I am self taught cross stitcher with no in person needlework shop to get to. I stitch only on 36ct. to 46ct linen. How is Even Weave different from linen?
@HandsOnDesign
@HandsOnDesign 6 ай бұрын
Linen, or what we commonly refer to as linen is a natural fiber - made from Flax. The woven threads have the natural tendencies of the fiber ie. thick & thin spots in the threads as well as the occasional 'slub' (which we have to incorporate into our stitches). Evenweave fabrics are usually a blend of natural & manmade or even 100% manmade, The woven threads are even...giving it the reference of evenweave. The natural fibers in linen can be creased easily with finger pressing or an iron - this is often helpful when you are doing certain types of finishes. Evenweave fabrics don't respond to finger pressing in the same manner. Both are lovely to stitch on - I tend more toward linen out of a personal preference (but that doesn't mean I won't us an evenweave!)

I did a Rhodes heart years ago, it came out Great. Hope no one is afraid, if I can do them, You all can do them. Great piece!!! Thanks for the tutorial.
