Dear Emily, I am pleased to hear that all is well with you and that you had a safe journey visiting your friends. I hope that your son and daughter-in-law are managing with their difficulties. The effect of hurricanes on communities is saddening. I seem to remember hearing Molly, of the Flosstube channel Linen and Scraps, saying that she had moved to El Paso to escape the worry of tropical storms and tornadoes. The newly reopened Sassy Jacks store is in the historic area of Asheville and I heard it stated on the news that Asheville had been badly hit. On a lighter note, your nativity stitch is lovely. The block finish sounds like a good idea. I have never used sawdust or walnut shells as a filling. Did you interface or line your stitched piece? I would worry about tannin being released onto my stitching. You could make a starched ticking inner pillow to stop the sawdust working it's way out. Best wishes to you and your family, Linda.

I did use interfacing, yes. Otherwise I am sure some would leak through. And thanks for your well-wishes. We are so thankful that our son and daughter-in-law escaped without more serious damage.

Oh, so very thankful y'all are okay. Also, wonderful that you equipped them many moons ago with a way to see and a way to cook. We'll continue to pray for that area and now Florida. On the stitching front, you continue to make wonderful progress! Thank you so much for sharing!

I also have family in Boone, NC and in Eastern TN. We have heard from them that they are all safe but out of power. My cousin gets a text or Facebook post out and then our extended family passes on the word. The destruction is devastating and it will take months or years to repair all of the roads. My cousin who lives alone with her pups, had a generous neighbor come and check on her and bring her water. She also said three young men came by and cut up a tree so she will be able to get her power hooked up. They are her heros.

I'm glad your family has received help. You are right, there are many heroes at work who are unknown and will never be properly acknowledged.

Found you today and subscribed. Love your work especially American Glory. I started it a few years ago and you inspired me to finish it now. So pretty.
