An easy way to find the 1 strand to pull out is to hold the strands with the tip up (gently pinch the strands with one finger & thumb about 1/4 " below the top end of the strands) tap on it with the other hand's finger (I use my index finger tip pad) and watch as it separates the strands, then pull out the one you want.

I use snack/sandwich bags to store my floss. I use small address labels and I enter the color number using my computer and printer. I have an old luggage makeup bag my mom gave me to put all my floss in.

I love that you store them in an old bag your mom gave you. I have a few floss bags from when my mom used them and I refuse to get rid of them. Her handwriting makes me smile. Thank you for sharing how you store yours too, and also for the sweet memory. It really brought a joy to my heart. Hugs, Stephanie

You are welcome for the information. The Rolodex feature is my favorite. It makes such a satisfying noise to me, and after a bit when you get used to doing it, it's so fast. You know about how are far to flip, and then you can situate it open to that spot so you can keep using that color. Let me know if you like it if you try it. Happy New Year! ~Steph

Thanks for showing the difference between the different bags. For now I am using snack bags. I write the number on index card and put it in bag. I put them in number order in box like file draw. I am working out my system but my plan is the bags for storage and thread drops/card for projects

I just came across your floss tube and it was very timely. I have used a similar “homemade” method using snack bags on rings. It works well but I like the idea of the double rings on the bottom of the bags. I had no idea that Hobby Lobby and Joann’s had these bags pre-punched available. Thank you for the information and the demo of how you use them. I’ve been stitching for a number of years (probably your mom’s era) and have used the bags all these years. The snack bags do eventually give out because they aren’t the best quality and weren’t meant to store things forever 😆. I am needing to re-bag all my floss and this will work really well for me.

I'm doing a Heaven and Earth design with 90 threads. I wasn't crazy about the thought of the floss away bags swinging around with the one hole. I am however loving the hobby lobby bag with the two holes and the rolodex action. Thank you for introducing me to this system. I also see they have a binder cover for these, which would mark the start and end of the floss bags numerically. They are silly cheap so I'm going to give this a shot and see if I like it.

Just because it's an older video doesn't mean it's not worthwhile. I use a combination of both the bobbins and the floss bags. I put the floss on the bobbins too easily store them in the bobbin container. When getting up a project or using a kit I put the floss in the floss bags on the ring and then they are not loose in my project bag

Great video! I'm so torn on this method, honestly. It always looks so practical and easy, but on the other hand...and this is going to make me sound like the worst most shallow person...it's just not as pretty as other methods! Also, I do the vast majority of my stitching on the couch while we watch TV and worry about all the rustling. Have you found that to be a problem or are the bags quieter than I might expect? Planning to try floss drops first but if that doesn't work out I'll probably end up back on this idea anyway :D
@theenpointestitcher9220
@theenpointestitcher9220 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle! I have to agree, it isn't as pretty. I got some boxes of bobbinated floss from sale on marketplace, and it is pretty to open and look at. I like that the bags keep the floss from rubbing on everything and so it stays newer, and there aren't any creases in the floss. As far as sound, it isnt too bad. The zipper isnt as thick as a ziplock so it isnt as noisy. I leave the bag open if I'm working a large block area, and the crinkle sound isnt as loud as say cellophane. I flip so fast to my number that there isnt much noise. I dont think I bother anyone while we watch tv. I could see how it would bother someone if they really dont like those sounds. I've done floss drops, and they work pretty well, but the floss does get a little fuzzy from rubbing on each other and whatever else. But I have seen some really cool floss drops where they are on a carousel and you turn to your color. Thanks for watching and for chatting with me.❤~Stephanie

Hello! I am currently using this storage system and love it! However, I’m a new stitcher and I have a question if you don’t mind me asking. How do you know how much of a skein you have leftover in a baggie? I’m currently working on my first full coverage project and should have thread left to use on another, but I don’t know how to determine if I have enough left of my used skeins or not for my second project. Thank you😊😊
@theenpointestitcher9220
@theenpointestitcher9220 Ай бұрын
Hi There! That's a great question! It's a little hard to answer, but I'll do my best. I'll do a video for you too. :) Each project uses a different amount depending on the size fabric I'm stitching on. So I use a floss calculator that tells me roughly how much floss I need for each color. I can also look at a skein and decide by how much is left from a previous project from how full it looks against the wrapper. A full skein is tight, 3/4 is slightly loose, 1/2 is super loose but the wrapper stays, and 1/4 it's hard to keep the wrapper on any more. But, here's the easiest way. Precut your floss to a length you like, count how many lengths and write it down somewhere that makes sense to you. You can then later count how many lengths you have left so you can determine if you have enough for the next project. Some people just use what they have until they run out or almost run out, and just toss a new one in there. I hope this is helpful! Let me know if you would like to chat more. :) Hugs! Steph
