I picked up a couple of transmission on my Floureon FC200 23 mile's from myself tonight. I was at my bedroom window in Little Hulton spoke to a Pete and Howard on Ashurst Beacon, Wigan. Picked a few more up but not sure if they received me. Paid £7 for the pair. I'm going out to higher ground for the Sunday 8pm net, see if I can achieve a greater distance.

I used a hot mini screwdriver and put a small hole in belt clip so now I have a carrying strap on my fc200.

I cut the excessive tubing off my antannae the helical is actually just over one inches in length and I put an antannae stopper on looks really neat and professional now without the excessive length.

Do you think you could reach The Trundle at Goodwood? (14 miles)

Hello there. 14 miles is certainly possible with 500mW from high ground to high ground. I haven't been up the Trundle for many years now, but from memory the coastline bends round to the east towards Highdown. So if anything was going to prevent a contact from the Trundle to Highdown, then it would likely be the topography (i.e. hills and high ground in the way). It's always worth trying things though :-) Sometimes contacts that shouldn't be possible on paper can happen, and vice-versa... 73 from Ed.

16 ct 842.... Sir, why a call sign on pmr446 ? Mike
@-CT--qp7ic

Hello Mike. By using a callsign I am differentiating myself from anybody else who might have the same first name as me and be active in the same geographical area. If conditions are good then it becomes even more likely that there could be several people named Mike (for example!) on air at the same time which could make it harder for anybody listening to keep track of who they have spoken to already (or not!) Obviously using a callsign is completely optional. I registered on the Charlie Tango (Copy That!) forum many years ago and they issued the callsign. Maybe I just happened to be the 842nd person who had applied for one!
