Flow wand tutorial - Floating isolations

One of my new year resolutions this year was making a tutorial, with a couple of my favorite moves. And here it is! :D I hope you find it useful. Happy New Year! :D

Bob Kelley If I understand you correctly that works fine, too. I developed this setup and string length because it gives me most freedom, and the string never slides down or off my arm. I recommend trying out different setups and string lengths, experimenting is fun! 😁👍

I just saw some of your videos. I'm usually a poi spinner, and never thought much about levistick, cause all people seem to do with it are pretty turns and dancing. But what you do with it is just awesome!!! Techy levistick? I'm honestly impressed! Best wishes from Germany!

Thanks so much for a GREAT tutorial on isolation moves, much appreciated by many. :) I have a few questions and requests if it's not too much trouble.... I would like to know how to float the wand in vertical position with hands on side of wand as you do in one of your other fabulous videos. Also your string attachment and swivel. (In other words are you using a a double string from wand to your arm connection with only a swivel at the arm point? I see some people put a swivel at the short string connection point and/or a swivel close to the wand for hand spins. Thanks again for all your fabulous videos. xoxoxo

+stryker48 Thank you for your inspiring words, stryker, it makes me really happy to know that my videos are appreciated by all you guys! :D Do you mean the back and forth flip in the beginning of the Slow Autumn Flow video? Where I'm holding the ends of the wand? I call this move "split flip". The string goes through the middle of the wand, so it kind of hangs in a huge loop of string (which makes it "double"), and the swivel is attaching the wand string to the arm loop. If you know what I mean :P When I split the string I can hold the ends, and tighten the string a bit when I'm letting the wand go. The wand will bounce a half round, and (hopefully) the ends will land right in my hands. It takes some practice to catch it smoothly, and to let go the spin in right plane (which is almost wall plane) Hope that clears some up - but if you meant another move than the one I just described, give me a pinpoint at when in the video I do the move, and I'll try again :)

I'm assuming your string is double from wand all the way to swivel under your arm. I'm trying to figure out the best way to string my wand as I'm currently using the standard "Hoopy" method with swivel just above the top of the wand, which has its good and bad points. Having the swivel at the attachment point under the arm looks like the better solution. Thanks again for ALL your great videos and sharing your amazing flow. Thank you so much for you kind words, Liane, I'm so happy to hear that my video inspires you! I have two LED wands, an Infinite as you know, and the one in this video, the Astral wand. I love them both! I've learned most of my tricks with the Infinite, and it took many hard knocks to the floor, before it started to crack in the ends. But the company has great guarantee and sent me a new one as soon as I told them. I haven't crashed my Astral like that, but people say it takes hard knocks, too. Maybe it's because it's lighter than the Infinite, with less mass. I've found that especially fast anti spins hitting the floor can be bad. My experience is that slow movements and slow spins keeps it more in control, and prevents damage to the prop in the long run. It's the Astral I'm using in my profile picture, btw! Have fun flowing! :D

You're welcome, hope it was useful :) I do "normal" levistickmoves with the string behind the shoulders, in addition to behind the back, or in front of the body. The three different string positions favors certain moves, though, but it's all about playing and experimenting and find out what works best for you and your style. Many possibilities :)

Sorry one last question! Can you explain how it is attached to your arm with a swivel? I have only seen swivels attached to finger loops so I can't really visualise how it is attached to your upper arm with a swivel as the finger loop would be too small. And if you just put your arm through the string and then put the strings behind your back then that would defeat the purpose of the swivel? Thanks so much (I think I have worn a groove into my finger practising the pendulum)!

Yes, my string is always attached to my upper arm, like a giant finger loop, with a swivel. It's very practical, cause the loop stays there, even if I have the string in front of the body, or for example during orbits around the body. This setup and string length gives me alot of possibilites and a nice feeling of freedom, I will make a video with details later :)

David Smit Congrats with your new wand, and welcome to the magic family! Is it the light bamboo type? It’s easier with a wand with more weighted ends, than the light thin types. Also, If you are all new to this, it will take time and practice to get control over the isolations. It is not the easiest moves to start with.If you are all new to levi wand, it can be fun just to experiment and get used to how the wand behaves in the beginning. I have countless hours with experimenting behind me, with some inspiration from iso sticks and poi. Many of my moves are actually discovered through "mistakes". But that's why I love the flow wand, there is still so much to explore! Floating isolations are possible to do with short string, no problem! :) The principles are the same, you just follow in half circle/circle with the wand hand, when the wand takes a spin. Your hands aren't as free, though, but you can still easily make the wand move this way.

I just got my first wand today and I have the short string on it. I'm not sure how to do this right without being able to have as much length as you do. any advice or do u have a tut for isolating short string?

Congratz with your new wand and welcome to the magic side! :D The principles for isolations are the same with short string, too. The wand still has to move around one of the ends in a circle motion - and so does your hand- the only difference is that the wand is stuck to one finger/hand instead of hanging more freely from the hand. You still have to do the half circle/circle motion with your hand, no matter how long the string is.If you know what I mean? Hope you'll find out of it! You have so much magic fun ahead of you, Flow be with you! :D

I was able to figure out a way to hook it on my other hand (the thumb web area? not sure what that's called haha) and that allowed me to alternate catching hands or use the same hand on each side. I just had to play with the amount of string I gave it. on the hand that doesn't have the loop (short string), where are you supposed to catch the string? I used the part of my hand between my thumb and index finger, but is that the correct way? it is hard to find tutorials on here for wanting!

I love that you are experimenting! So did I, and there are no rights or wrong here. I think it's called a "v-grip" when you are holding the string between the thumb and index finger, that's what I mostly do, too. Keep experimenting, and find out what you find most comfortable, both string length wise and how/where you attach your string to the body. This is still a relatively new skill prop, and there's still more to explore, and there are many different styles out there. Have fun experimenting and developing your own unique, magic expression and flow, Amy! :D (And just ask if you have any questions, and I'll do my best answering them) :)

+Leviosa79 lol yeah that's the thing with these wands they're so new there's not a lot of outlined right or wrong ways to do it. I did see a downloadable short string wanding basics workshop that I will probably get when I get paid next. I hoop too and it's easy to find the correct form and ways to do hooping stuff, but I'm totally winging the wand thing and just trying to make it look cool lol. i feel like i just do the same things over and over thou. you know I bet you could do tutorials for wanding on your channel every week etc and make it a business. because there are literally no other ppl doing it for wanding. if I knew what I was doing I'd totally do that haha. maybe in a year or so I'll be good enough to try to make tutorials. are you on fb?

It's a single string going through a hole in the middle of the wand, which makes it kind of double... If you know what I mean... ;) Anyway in this video I'm holding it like a single string, I never split it.
