Unfortunately, the tradition of flower giving is fading out with the younger people who are much more internationalized and reject the traditions of their parents. The number of flower kiosks and stands have decreased a lot in recent years, apartment due to the price raising so much. They used to be imported by the Netherlands but with the sanctions, they have become rare and the hothouse flowers from Russia are pretty expensive so when it used to cost 25-50 rubles per rose is it now 170-300 per rose. I know I have cut back on flower giving. The last flowers I gave were for a birthday and the simple rose bouquet was $60. Floral arrangements start at about $15 and go up to $100 so you do not see masses of flower givers head home hold flowers as much as before. In the 1970s on my first visit, every other man leaving the metro had flowers to take home. That remained common through the 90s and it has been fading since about 2014-15. In my neighborhood, 3 flower shops have closed in the last year and were now pet shops number 9 in a 1 block radius. There used to be flower shops in every metro station but only a few remain. It was always the appropriate gift because one did not have to remember the woman's sizes or color preference or scent preferences as with other traditional gifts. Many of the traditions have faded in the internationalization of the young people which is sad to see. Kids pay FAR more attention to IG influencers than their own cultural traditions. The number and color of flowers means a lot, for example, yellow flowers means an impending break-up or sadness Red carnations might be appropriate for older women who lived their best days during the USSR but not for young women The brightness of the flowers is a measure of one's feelings Every flower type and color has a specific meaning, a florist might know of hundreds of color/species combinations but most people associate meaning to a dozen or so, it might only be important to older people what you intended but color choice. For example for roses alone, there are many expressions associated with the different colors Here is just one of the hundreds of flower types given as symbols and some have multiple and contradictory means so context is everything. Rose, Bridal: Happy Love Rose, Carolina: Love Is Dangerous Rose, Christmas: Peace and Tranquility Rose, Coral/Orange: Enthusiasm, Desire Rose, Dark Pink: Thank you Rose, Light Pink: Admiration Rose, Musk: Capricious Beauty Rose, Pale: Friendship Rose, Peach: Let's get together, Closing of the deal Rose, Pink: Love, Grace, Gentility, You're so Lovely, Perfect Happiness, Please believe me Rose, Pink & White: I love you still and always will Rose, Red: Love, Desire, Respect, Courage, Job well done Rose, Red & Yellow: Congratulations Rose, White: Charm, Secrecy, Silence, You're Heavenly, Reverence, Humility, Youthfulness and Innocence Rose, White on Red: Unity/Flower Emblem of England Rose, Yellow: Infidelity, Joy, Gladness, Friendship, Jealousy, Welcome Back, Remember me Rose, Yellow & Orange: Passionate thoughts

What is “IG influencers”?

In the central part of Russia, the flowering period is very short. Flowers that bloom all summer are few, as most of these plants do not tolerate cold winters. Therefore, we often have a lot of fresh flowers at home, and flowers are a classic gift for a birthday, for women's day on March 8, as well as for actors, doctors, teachers, etc. In the Soviet Union, flowers were difficult to buy, there were few of them, so their value (not the price) was even higher, flowers could express love, recognition, apology, etc. This habit has persisted to this day, so in large cities there are a lot of round-the-clock flower shops. According to the templates, flowers are bought not only by men for their women. For example, I sometimes buy flowers just to raise my mood, I like fragrant ones - freesias, white carnations, delphiniums, daffodils, etc. I can buy a bouquet if I go to visit a friend to please her, and yesterday I bought a bouquet for my mother, since it was my brother's birthday 🤗

How do flowers express redemption? Is it a part of an apology?

What are good gifts to give to people in Russia, and men?
@taemck39463 жыл бұрын
Anything you want, if you know what a person wants or is addicted to it, but there are some not very important rules, but they must be observed-it is considered a bad omen to give weapons, knives and other piercing and cutting objects (you can give them, but do not be surprised if you are given a coin or bill in return, as if buying your gift), personal hygiene items, underwear and perfume (it is considered that this is an intimate gift and it can be given by relatives or very close friends). Now it is fashionable to give impressions-tickets to somewhere (to a concert, performance), to games, etc. But you need to choose a non-fixed date. You can give delicacies, especially if they are from your region and will be unusual for the recipient... Lubaya neoychnaya thing or food - not a bad gift in the future... Especially if you tell a story about her. The most versatile gift is refined or rare alcohol. Even if the birthday boy himself does not drink - he can surprise or please his guests. Well, for women - flowers ... 💐

What does it mean when a russian friend gives you yellow flowers? He said it meant unity but I've heard it means deceit or farewell. So what is it?

What load of old codswallop. Russian women don't care for flowers. I lived in Moscow for eleven years. They just leave them where you gave them flowers. It happened too many times with me. What waste of money.

Your experience is definitely not the norm. Maybe the person receiving them didn't care for the person giving them? That's a typical response from any woman, not only from Russian women. Consider the number of flowers shops on most main streets even in the dead of winter. Much of Russia doesn't have a good growing season for flowers which makes them more expensive compared to other places and yet they are bought and given out for most special occasions.
