Rich, that is a sexy blade. I think the way the twists went add to it. Looks on and off, which would be hard to do if you were trying to. I will disagree about the pommel though, seems like it would help the balance a lot with how thick the blade is.

I`d be delighted to make something any near as good, beautiful work. I think the difference in the twists marks it out as hand, not machine, made. (And the weight training is showing too!)

The flowers I brought from a iron gate catalog, the rest I forged from round stock, the blade is from some decent rebar and the twisted D guard I forged from 8mm round stock I forged to a square and twisted
