It's not he couldn't,he didn't tried that much and the man was watching him trying to burn him ,but later he was busy killing her ,so he got the time and also desperation also a fact. She meant the world to him in a way he himself didn't understand.the seed of belief that he can't feel was buried so deep that he never understood his actions.he didn't recognise the length he is going just to with her.

As a psychology student, I personally believe that the character of Do HyunSoo suffers from a condition called Alexithymia. This means that he does not understand and cannot express his feelings well. You can see that in this scene alone. He is definitely angry-- some man just tried to kill his wife-- but because he does not understand what he is feeling, he can't regulate it well, and ends up needing his wife to keep him from killing Yeom SangCheol.

He said that he doesn't love her.. in this drama the main lead can't feel emotions.. people said that he is a phycho and killed people.. but he has a daughter.. when his wife going to work he took care of his daughter.. so his wife said a phycho can't take care of a child.. in childhood he didn't get love care support.. so he becomes emotionless.. but at the end he realised that he loves her a lot and can't live without his family.. one of the great drama
