I've just moved into my new rental, and have fallen in love with the garden. It's got lots of trees and large bushes so will need shade loving plant's etc. Thanks for helping me decide what to choose, this video helps a lot, and I will try to introduce most of them.

Great video. I just moved into a house that doesn’t even have grass yet. And there will be a decent area of shade. The developer want each house to look uniform. However, one side of the street faces north and the other faces south. Mine faces north. Finding this site has been very helpful and maybe I can help the developer put planting that will work on each side of the street. Thank you for sharing this information.

Not really a gardener but I love beautiful gardens. We have so many shaded areas in our house, so this video was great. Would be great to know the ideal time to plant these as well

As long as the new plants can be properly watered, planting at any time of the growing season can be done. Although, I have had the best luck planting in the spring when the temperatures are cool and rain is abundant. This seems to help get the plants established quickly.

I hope that you add edibility notes or do an article about that. Edible shade garden is what I'm trying to do, so canna lilies and daylilies for partial shade are some that I'm looking at. Some of the begonias and the wild Violet have a great flavor. I also enjoy dewberries in the shade garden because the flowers and leaves give some early tea opportunities. I'd like to know what edible bushes and Vines to plant in the shade garden for more structure.

Thank you for that wonderful idea! This topic will definitely make our list of future videos to create. We do offer a few articles on our site regarding growing edibles in shade... www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/edible-shade-plants.htm www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/fegen/fruit-bearing-shade-plants.htm

@@gryl7471 Dewberries grow wild in eastern Texas hill country and have less violently thorned branching than blackberries. They have super cute white edible flowers the size of a quarter, though their leaf formation looks poison ivy-ish so make sure what you're dealing with before you get too close :).

Can I grow these shade-lovers on my 10' deep Victorian porch? There is plenty of morning sun, but then shade for the rest of the day.
@Gardeningknowhow Жыл бұрын
Begonias would tolerate that light level. They are available in so many shapes, sizes and colors that I am sure you will find one (or more) that would look terrific on your porch.

Is "foal-age" for foliage a dialectical pronunciation? If so where do people pronounce it that way? Midwest?
@lindsaywilliambrown8082 жыл бұрын
People say things all different ways. It is common to contract fulll enunciation esp. for vowels in the English language, just like law-yer is often pronounced loy-urh just to save the mouth a little bit of work. The pronunciation she uses here does not have a regional identity; it's used often across regions.

I had exactly the same question!

yes, we do pronounce it foal-age in the midwest :-)

@@lindsaywilliambrown808 Yes, as a speech language pathologist I'm well aware of coarticulation. :) This particular dialect difference was new to me and wasn't in any of my dialect resources.
