Second sound is the Flowmasters

Flowmaster wasn't even around until the mid-1980s. They have a deep hollow-metal-can sound. If you want old-school, then true dual exhaust (no X-pipe or H-pipe), no cats, no resonators, and glasspacks are the way to go. THAT'S old-school!

I know the Magnaflow is supposed to have better performance because of design, but IMO nothing sounds better/cleaner than a Flowmaster. Good comparison.

I used to be all about the flowmasters until i had some on my daily driver, and they just end up being too loud and resonate way too much interior noise. Then i got a 97 Yukon which already had a Magnaflow on it and it's the best of both worlds... aggressive powerful sound, but quiet when idling and cruising, and still lets the engine breathe just fine

I think they both sound good and there is nothing wrong with a tahoe they have the same motor the 5.3 vortec as the Silverado and suburban

My uncle just finished fixing up a 2003 fully loaded Tahoe and he had the original engine rebored to a 5.8L and can’t wait to hear what that sounds like (the Tahoe he got was so well kept there ain’t a spot of rust anywhere but some surface rust on the frame).

I would prefer the Magnaflow. Flowmasters are nice and loud, but sound tinny and hollow, and the drone on long trips would drive me crazy.

I had a 2003 Tahoe with the flowmaster 40 series. I loved the sound of it but the in cabin drone drove me crazy on long trips. I had high quality speakers and the exhaust drowned them out. Now I have an Harley edition F150 with magnaflow muffler #12288... love it. Deep throaty growl at idle and acceleration but no drone when I hit my cruising speed. Now I can enjoy my music on long trips and not listen to the exhaust. Nice Tahoe BTW.

This 10 year old comment is just the comment I needed to not go the “flow master route”😂😂😂 I got a dodge charger and has flow master but kept the stock rear muffler/scat pack rear tips and sounds so good! No drone no nothing but roar when I hit it That’s what I want for my Tahoe

I bought the Tahoe and it came with Magnaflows I didnt like the sound so I went with a Dual Exhaust 40 series flowmasters and the tips the muffler place had them there

My v6 Chevy pickup had an exhaust leak and sounded like a go cart. Then I got some magnaflows installed and Damn! I was like is that my truck? Almost sounds like a v8 and is nice and deep.

LMFAO!! the old saying holds true again! There are stupid people everywhere!! It isn't piston slap it is valves ticking!!! The oil goes through a hole in the lifter then through the pushrod to get to the top end. They plug up easily If not well maintained. Need to run an engine clean detergent through them almost every oil change

I did a similar test, but didn't record it. my old truck was a 2000 silverado extended cab step side, and I did the magnaflow stainless steel dual exhaust, and it was loud, backfired on deceleration , but wasn't horrible. After I did some engine mod's, which included long tube headers and high flow cats, it was down right obnoxious. Couldn't stand to be in it or around it. I changed out only the muffler, and even went to a 50 series figuring it would be mellower, and it actually sounded fantastic. Gained a few mpg, and with the headers could really feel the power difference.

I can tell the first one is Magnaflow, and I prefer it over Flowmaster. Flowmaster sounds good, but compared to Magnaflow, it seems tinny, hollow, and louder. Good for old muscle cars, but Magnaflow sounds more modern, smooth and 'tuned'. Magnaflow also frees up a little bit more powaa. That's what's going on my GMC Envoy 5.3 and without the kitties.

I decided for a flowmaster system on my 2005 Expi and sounds great. for those whining about drone, do your homework. Flowmaster offers a large array of setups, it has the loud lumpy sounding mufflers, but also offers a quieter version with all the performance gains...

Flowmaster's 2 chamber mufflers are all 13" long so you probably had a 24" case Mag or so, which is very quiet even with no cats, if you put on a 14" or 11" case they're a ton louder, and Mag also has 6" racing mufflers that monster trucks and desert trophy trucks use; personally i like chambered mufflers on old small/big blocks and Magnaflows on newer engines like the LS

Nice exhaust! First has a deeper rumble, but less aggressive, more mellow tone, Magna. Second one has the distinguishable muscle rumble, more aggressive roar, Flow. IMO, Flowmaster wins because it scavenges unburned fuel and redirects it to the proper chamber which in turn, burns the fuel and creates that famous aggressive Flowmaster sounds from the baffles as it burns. Man I miss my 2002 Tahoe 5.3L! Best SUV!

Magnaflow would sound better reving in high rpms, drop that baby into 1st or 2nd and letter roar, but flowmaster has that blatty echo sound

Both Magnaflow and Flowmaster are good mufflers. Now if you care about performance hands down Magnaflow is better. If you want more of that throaty sound that has that choppy sound then Flowmaster is the way to go. My old man has the 40 Series single in dual out with 3 inch pipping, and 4 inch tips. It sounds pretty dope.

I dont remember the size but it was twice as big as the flowmasters... yes large tips do make it sound a little louder which im planning on doing next right now I have a 3 1/2 tip gonna get a 4' muffler tip...

How long was the old Magnaflow? I had a 24" on my truck when I got it and it was too quiet, put an 18" on it and it sounded twice as good, much louder and has a nice deep, smooth rumble. Let me add that large tips increase the deep rumble and make the exhaust louder which is why truck catbacks use them, and why Harley's all have the big 4" tips, they make it louder and deeper.

I have an 08 Impalla SS and have been torn between the agressive 40's or the Hushpowers cause the hush powers seem more frendly for the neighbors, but yet, I do have an 09 Raider with LA Choppers Nasty Boys on it and those things are wicked loud so I'm sure they won't mind the 40's lol.

Don't just consider sound, consider performance. Flowmasters don't flow that well. Airflow bench testing has proven this. The chambers and baffles create turbulence. Magnaflows have a straight-through design with little to no restriction.

Flowmaster has many different mufflers with different tones. I like flowmaster. I prefer original 40 on my trucks. 44's are a bit louder
