Whenever someone says Floyd ran, just direct them to this video. Those who have never laced up a set, trained, sparred etc, could never appreciate how clean of a boxer Floyd was. Key word “BOXER” Distance management is brilliant, he offsets the timing by changing the tempo and power of his punches, and his defense is master class level. Just the way he stood in the pocket, rolled with the punches while countering with his own is a feat not many can do with such efficiency.

THat's true if you let him stay at distance. The trick with an elusive fighter like FM is to feint and get close and turn it into an inside fight. You also have to be able to fight very "square on" to cut off Floyd's ability to evade both left and right. That's how Roberto Duran would have fought him. This was an early version of Canelo, his ability to feint (and feint well) came later. In this fight he was very much one-two from distance.

Looking back at this fight, you can SEE what Mayweather meant by experience won. His counter punches are amazing and knew where to attack. Canelo doesn't protect himself well throughout the whole fight, would get frustrated, and got a good beating. But you can see Canelo's chin and heart start to flourish throughout the fight. Floyd was masterful in this fight. I truly think some people’s eyes are too slow for most of Floyd’s fights. It shows by what they say. If they truly could keep up with the lightning speeds they’d understand how badly Floyd picked this young man apart. Floyd was quite the aggressive striker. Canelo’s achievements since this fight just proves how special Floyd was. He presented his head to goad Canelo in and stopped body shots by lateral movements and his master full shoulder roll. Canelo tends to attack the body in the early rounds and hunt the head later, Floyd outsmarted him.

Exactly, and Floyd knew this is canelo strength point, Canelo felt exhausted in final rounds,even his body shots was weak, Floyd style is “each round with it’s plan”, also he kept him a way with jabs, while hunting the points ,and he was able to take strong punches in his core, and mentally controlled him.
