i agree.. hatton can't hit him on the outside.. so he lunges in to get in the inside (where he's best at) and gets caught up and holds floyd every time. Cortez is a solid ref.. he's a lot better then some out there who allow low blows, rabbit punches and hits to the back of the head....

@btnupe1 To each it's own. Nothing wrong with blood and guts in my opinion, but I respect your point as well. Although, the viewing of a no retreat, exchanging of years of learned skill, toe to toe combat without either backing off is what blows the roof off the arena and a test of true warriors at work. A true test of a fighter to unleash his own skill effectively while fully engaging the rainstorm of the other. This may contribute to why Floyd has the record but still lack public praise.

To all u guys hating on Cortez....He is the only ref that didnt allow Hatton to hold and punch..Hatton whould have never reached the status he acheived if other refs wouldnt have allowed him to fight this way. I've seen this guy many times hit fighters while having them in a head lock and get credit for it.

@runrunforest5 actually a left uppercut would be the better option...i was yellen at the screen in the hatton mayweather fight...its not illegal to duck...hatton feels uncomfortable and puts dudes in head locks//watch all of his fights he does it alot..he should throw some left uppercuts..it makes sence:)

The way Hatton got beat on in this fight, he will never be the same fighter. People don't understand how Floyd beats on people. He constantly hits them with on the money left hooks and right hands over 9-10 rounds, and then knocks you out. That's cumulative damage. He's retired many prominent fighters or effectively made them dead fighters fighting. N'Dou, Corley, Judah, Gatti, Baldomir, Hatton, etc. were never the same after they fought Mayweather.

So youre saying that PBF didnt even use his own fighting style against hatton and that if he did use his own style he wouldve beaten him soundly right? Isnt PBF fighting style slowly backing up and countering which he did in this fight, the DLH fight, the marquez fight,the baldimor fight and the Judah fight? It wasnt the jab that knocked hatton out. It was him using his right and check hooking.

You need your eyes tested. Hatton is stepping forward and Floyd is putting his arms round him. The reason hatton isn't punching as much is because floyds using his arms to hold hattons down and stop him from getting punches off.
@bull6599
@bull6599 13 жыл бұрын
@onlyjoetee Exactly. Oscar De La Hoya had 1 of the best jabs in boxing and Floyd countered him into submission as far as his jab is concerned. Many ppl wonder why Oscar stopped throwing his jab vs Floyd & it's b/c the trade-off wasnt worth it. The return-counter was harder than what he was dishing out. That's what makes Floyd so hard to beat. He takes ur best offensive weapon & makes u pay for using it. U have to have a plan A, B, C, & D to beat Floyd

@Dmidgette1 I'm not prejudiced who was holding? hatton was trying to get on the inside- all i'm saying is that for this round the referee wouldn't let hatton work the body-which is his style. It prejudices hatton because he wasn't able to fight in an effective way.

analysing this fight all floyd does is run round the ring, throw one punch, clinch hatton, as soon as hatton gets into his stride, he clinches him and does the same thing over and over!! i wanna see floyd brawl for once, throw some punches, he did it against mosley and he did good, i really wanna see the pacqiuao fight so everyone can see floyds true abilities but that 0 of his is stopping it
@zab7073

even though everyone's hating on Floyd for talking about fighting Hatton in England, and i'd much rather see him fight Pacuiao, Cotto, or Paul Williams next, a fight where the ref is on Hatton's side could be the difference in the fight so long as Hatton is shot by now. Cortez was awful in this fight.
@834373
@834373 12 жыл бұрын
It's nothing to do with racism, it's purely about their personalities and styles. Ricky was a proud Englishmen who was very likeable and made every second of every round a fight. Khan used England as a stepping stone and jumped to America as soon as he could, abandoning his English supporters who had been paying 50 pounds to go and watch him knock tomato-cans out in one round.
@BGChamp2019

What I mean by blueprint is that there is a weakness in PBF's game that can be exploited but he hasnt ran into the type of fighter than can take advantage of of it until now. Castillo used pressure and had punching power but didnt have the speed to connect. RH just was a rough pressure fighter without speed or devastating power like LC. How did he beat LC soundly when the fight couldve gon either way?

@ajp135212 then can you explain how mayweather struggled against de la hoya and how Pacquiao destroyed him with ease? de la hoya mayweather was just as close as Pacqiao marquez. styles make fights but a good offense can always penetrate and beat a good defense.

In the early going HBO did a terrible job of judging this fight. If you closed your eyes and listened to the commentary you'd think Hatton was dominating Floyd which he wasn't. Hatton showed aggression but it wasn't effective. Floyd was landing that straight right very cleanly. He was not rattled by the pressure. It made him work harder than usual but he controlled the distance pretty well. Round 1 goes to Floyd because Hatton didn't do anything but chase him around.

People don't know nothing about boxing. Floyd was breaking him down from round 1 to the KO. He was running into that left hook all night. This was a great gameplan by Mayweather. Also you can't use this fight to determine that Manny would beat Floyd. Hatton and Manny fight nothing alike. Hatton is a pressure fighter than tries to beat you on the inside. Manny is all mid range. Jumps in, gets off, and jumps out. Manny would lose to Floyd because he can't adjust or cut the ring off.
@Dmidgette1
@Dmidgette1 14 жыл бұрын
@kenomy66 I don't think the ref was wrong. Yes Hatton is a inside fighter. So what most pure boxers do to a inside fighter is grab as soon as they get inside automatically the ref is gonna break. Mostly it was Hatton doing the holding on the inside.

Hatton was outboxed but the fight could have been a lot closer had the ref not deducted the point off Hatton. That was very, very harsh. Because of this and the constant breaking up on the inside he ended up losing by KO or TKO but he could have lost on the score cards and this would have been a bit more respectful for him. His defence throughout the fight was shocking. He has no defence. He made Floyd look like the hardest puncher to come out of Vegas. If he fights Manny I hope he beats him.
@bull6599
@bull6599 11 жыл бұрын
Southpaws are also susceptible to straight rights which is Floyd's best punch. It's damn near unstoppable. If I had to put my $ on 1 guy taking away the other's best punch I'd bet on Floyd. Manny also struggles against technical fighters who can turn him, use angles. have head movement, etc. That's why he always looked average vs Marquez. If u put him in the ring vs guys like Margs who come straight forward he's a world beater though.

Plus Manny will not stop, he will chase Floyd all night long and his southpaw stance will hurt Floyd a lot. At one point, Mayweather will be stopped by the left. Manny's explosiveness will kill Floyd.. I think Manny's style is custom fit to hurt Mayweather. In his style reside all Floyd's weaknesses shown in his fights: 1- southpaw (deCorley, Judah) 2- Pressure (Castillo, Hatton) 3- Speed (Judah) 4- Movement (Hatton) Add the output, heart and stamina of Manny and Floyd will be KO. You'll see..

@777yojoe every good boxing training knows tactics to tie up and fight on the inside. one of the things teddy atlas says he admires most about boxing is how truly skilled fighters can sneak blows in when standing at phone booth range and be right where all the guys blows can land but slip and evade. a lot of the whole time guys use tricks like spinning a guy into a blow, moving someone with your shoulders, or breaking tie ups to throw.

Lol, fyi guys Mayweather is smart he knows that in order to get away from being cornered you're going to get hit once or so. The reason mayweather is lowering his head is to bring hatton in and get countered with a right hand.

I am really trying to enjoy this fight again, but watching Cortez not letting these guys work in the inside, breaking them up every 10 seconds, REALLY ruined the entertainment value of this fight. Cortez should not be allowed to ref these high profile fights anymore, he is always involved too much in fights.
