I have loved this song from the first time I heard it.....It was a long time ago. I am 74 years old and have been blessed to have lived in an era when the most beautiful songs were written. Every time I listen it gives me goosebumps. Every version is great...of course Etta James for giving birth to this masterpiece. Beth Hart is awesome and Beyonce gives you the shivers when they perform this piece and not to forget Koko Taylor cover, but Warren just breaths soul and heart into it.............what a beautiful performance!

It was hearing Warren’s playing on By A Thread that inspired me to pick up a guitar. I had played bass for years in other peoples working bands, but when I heard Warren, it was a light bulb moment. I actually heard this song for the first time driving through Muscle Shoals, AL. Had no clue who Etta James was, but I had the internet and KZbin. The experience blew me away and turned me into a lifelong blues fan. I’m a truck driver and I’ve been all over the South. Many of the small Mississippi basin towns have a sign as you drive in and they are very proud of their musician sons and daughters. Nowadays, I read the name and immediately hop online to listen to their music. You cannot imagine the rapture I’ve experienced this way. Government Mule plays the best covers, IMO.

I will she'd many tears when this guy decides to hang it up or worse.....leaves this world. Such a master of the craft. Simplistic greatness. What's it's all about. The right note, the right dynamic, the right feel. Live is where it's at with this group. From the first time I saw them at the Cotton Club in 1996. Look that show up. The entire show is on KZbin. There were about 300 people at that show and I was stage right. 10 feet from Warren. The soldano amp was soooooooo tasty.
