Thanks to my viewer Patrick who pointed out that in the meantime, you need to follow the PI update instructions found in pip.raspberrypi.com/categories/685-whitepapers-app-notes/documents/RP-003476-WP/Updating-Pi-firmware.pdf first before installing Samplerbox!

Amazing content, this is like 2 in 1, first the sampler then the auto sampler. In my case I'm a bit new to sampling technology, not sure if these samplers among other, do play a single wav file chromatically (faster or slower depending on the note) or it has a set of wav files corresponding to each octave (which I can imagine this would sound better). Anyway, it's time for me to take a look at those future music CDs and DVDs plenty of samples I've never used. Thanks for the video.
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching! This will play samples chromatically. It's a "clever script" which reads a directory of samples and automatically creates zones on your keyboard. So if you only have one sample, that one sample will be used for the whole range of notes.
@thefumigator
@thefumigator 2 жыл бұрын
@@mr_floydst nice to know, but isn't this lower quality on notes that are low or high, far away from the original wav note when it was recorded? 🙏 thank you
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! That's why apps like "autosampler" exist, they'll record notes spaced evenly to fill those "gaps".

The display on the board is a standard display that will show whatever you tell it to show. So if you know which libraries to use, yes, it's possible. Start here: learn.pimoroni.com/article/getting-started-with-pirate-audio#what-s-on-the-boards

Hi Floyd, I have followed your (great) tutorial and have the Samplerbox with pirate audio running. The only thing is that is is taking up to a minute to boot. In your video it only takes seconds. (running on a PI4) Also what ever I enter in the network.txt it will not connect to my wifi network. (this is not a major issue for me) Are there some setting I'm missing that makes booting this long. Thanks, Rolof
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 6 күн бұрын
Hi Rolof! Boot speed depends on the SD card you're using, and you could also try to disable system services not needed. In this video, I've sped up certain parts to make it more "watchable". I haven't tried Samplerbox with the latest Raspbian release yet. Your WiFi woes might stem from OS updates that Samplerbox doesn't know of...

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question sorry - my sequencer only has midi out. The midi usb cables I've seen state that they run on windows etc but not Linux. What kind of cable or adaptor do i need to connect my sequencer to the pi pls? Thanks again
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 27 күн бұрын
Hi, if you're looking to connect the PI to your sequencer using 5pin MIDI cables, any of those cheap USB to 5pin adapters are going to work. They're all using the same chipset and Linux has a driver for that.

Thanks so much for this video, I'm going to try my hand at Samplebox. First venture into pi. I would like to just it to trigger long samples, eg a 5min vocal, with one note. Eg hit a pad and have the whole sample play as a one-shot. Is this possible? My controller doesn't have latch. Is the default for samplebox for it to only play while a pad / key is pressed? Given I'm new to this, if anyone reasons could you please treat me like a baby in your reply! Not familiar with pi, python etc. Thanks so much again
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 28 күн бұрын
Please take a look at the "definition.txt" you have to place in a sample folder. Each note can have a release sample (that will be played when you release a key) If you create a super short sample that plays when hitting a key and make the main sample the release sample, it should play uninterrupted from start to end ;-)

You should post this question on the creator's page. My guess is that loading a soundfont takes some time, and only one is held in memory at a time. So pressing the buttons discards the current and loads the next soundfont, which takes a second. Theoretically, the PI has enough RAM to preload the previous and next soundfonts on your SD card to swapping is instantaneous... But that would complicate the code, I think.

Hello, Floyd! forgive me, I am not getting this correctly, So, just connecting the keyboard to th Pi and running this autosampler script as you show, will "capture" the samples in the keyboard, without pressing a key? I have a studiologic digital piano and it's also a midi controller, will I be able to save the original samples of the keyboard? and how I choose wich voice to sample? :: confused :: thanks again for your channel!!
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching! Autosampler will do as advertised: It will capture a number of samples automatically. You can specify the length of the notes and the "distances" in semitones between each sample captured as well as velocities. Once the samples are created, you can e.g. create soundfonts from them. On Windows, there's Samplerobot for that, if you're more proficient in Windows.

Hanging notes in this software is bizarre! Maybe running status incompatibility? I have programmed a lot with Midi and note offs can be kept as part of a record of note on's and a circular buffer/interrupts should be able stop any problem. Perhaps the UART RX should be more integrated into the sample routines? It's a shame it does that.
@mr_floydst

Could be the PI3 which does not have enough CPU power to handle these amounts of data from SD (but as you said, that shouldn't be the case). PI4 should handle this software better, especially the chorus and reverb effects.

Pirate Audio :( Thanks for the great video, only problem was that I ordered the device without realizing how much noise it make. Setup works and is easy to set-up as well as import samples, but its not device for recording clean sounds. Noise levels are too high. I decided to return the Pirate Audio and started using proper Usb converter audio device like Focusrite/Steinberg (I got UR22C no more toys)... I guess you moidified the recording as there is no noise. Would have saved the trouble in I would know this. Anyways was fun to play.
