"the lows on the 5150 are low and sounds generic" Thats because tons of people dont realize it can be used in different ways. Everyone always gravitates and uses the red channel. Try this people: Rythem channel, crunch button enabled, bright button optional, gain at 6-7, eq to taste, boost it.
@sethgross39043 жыл бұрын
Yup! The rhythm channel is where it’s all! Thicker and less compressed. The 5150 doesn’t have to sound brittle and fuzzy.

Pro tip: Adjustable bias mod, heat those bad boys up to at least 30mA. They are set extremely cold from the factory. Then that Rhythm channel will come to life!

Kristian's course is awesome. It made so much sense of stuff that gets all muddled in the received "lore". Like the relative importance of guitar and speaker cab for tone. (Hint - it's the cab; not even close).

@15:46 I bought an oversized Mesa slant/straight 4x12 cab from a pawn shop for $450 about 15 years ago. To this day, that was the best sounding cab I've used. I stupidly sold it to pay rent a few years ago and now I miss it but there's truth to finding Mesa products at pawn shops.

GUYS! as a fellow rectifier lover myself, the best 5150 i have played is the new gold one with EL34's, it has so much more balls than any of the other 5150/6505's that have 6L6's and sounds much more well-rounded and less "fizzy." i think if theres ever going to be a 5150 that Kohle would like, it would be this one - i strongly suggest you guys demo one if youre able to!

That’s cool you have an FJA modded amp. A lot of people don’t know about FJA. He modded a block letter 5150 for me years ago. Bias mod and clarity mod. It was amazing. awesome video! I learned a lot. I have always liked the 5150, but primarily for its pre-amp. for the poweramp, I have always preffered Marshall and EL34. For many years I have used a Digital modeller emulating the 5150 preamp, and run it through an old Marshall 9000 series rack poweramp. (the old with the black front. I later learned that some guitarplayers swear by these, because of the Power transformers used in these. but these also made it very very heavy, maybe that's why they were replaced in the later versions with the gold front.) To me, this combination yielded the best of both worlds. I have been tempted to try out KT 77 powertubes, but that will have to wait.

I've had a 6505+ and a Triple Rectifier. The Peaveys have much tighter bass especially with drop tunings, but it's mostly beneficial when playing fast riffs. I liked it when playing in a band because it kept things super tight (especially with a noise gate). Playing by myself I prefer something warmer, but that doesn't matter because no one hears me play at home

I think the most important step in achieving a great tone is knowing what you want. Unless you're in multiple cover bands, you don't need a rig to cover every genre. Find your favorite tones that fit YOUR style of playing then do the research to find the gear behind those tones. It's that simple.

Boosted 90w Mark V left side thru oversize Mesa 4x12, not boosted EVH 51510 Stealth right side with Mimiq doubler thru matching EVH stealth 4x12 cab. Both run thru Decimator Pro Rack G units... Some FX pedals in front of amps, both amps running FX loops thru stereo fx pedals on rack shelves controlled with RJM Effect Gizmo, two Amp Gizmos, and GT/10 midi controller. The live sound in the room is absolutely crushing in drop A with Duncan Invaders or Fishman Moderns. Interesting opinion about the 5150! Sail Into The Black by Machine head was one of my biggest inspirations for my own tone. That part in the break down before the solo is one of my favorite guitars sounds ever. I think the way it's written is a big part of that. Check out the Soundtrack for the video game - Slain: Back from Hell - I believe it was composed by a member of Celtic Frost. Awesome soundtrack and another huge tone inspiration for me
