I somewhat disagree. They shouldn’t sugar coat it, but they shouldn’t be complete zero filter. A doctor with no filter can often cause more distress for the patients and their family than is needed. Ideally, a doctor should lay out all the information relevant to the patient, but if anything like death or life changing events could/would need to occur, it needs to be said in a gentle and caring manner to prevent excessive emotional distress that might cause more issues than they solve.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I know personally what a struggle it can be. I had gastric bypass 15 years ago and went from 265 to 130. I never felt better. Than my husband passed away from COPD and diabetes complications. I went straight to my favorite drug of choice food. I was only happy when i was eating. Unfortunately i gained most of the weight back and have been struggling ever since. Your story has given me encouragement. Thank you 💜

I had the exact same experience Gabriel!! 430-someodd pounds, I still remember the doctor approaching the foot of the bed (I was in the hospital) and he looked me point blank and said "30 years old, uncontrolled diabetes and congestive heart failure. If you don't make a change, and SOON, you won't make it to 40." I appreciated the cold no bullshit tone. It made it real. 1 year later and I'm now down to 290. Still got a ways to go, but! Progress! You're doin' good Fluffy!

Last December I found out that I have type one diabetes and high blood pressure and I was 279 pounds and I was at the doctor's office yesterday and found out that I'm down to 223 pounds so in five months I've lost 56 pounds. I'm not down to the weight that I need to be but I'm getting there.

I topped out at 350 pounds and had a moment that snapped me out of it. I'm in law enforcement and, on one specific occasion, I couldn't get out of my car for a foot pursuit. My holster got stuck in the steering wheel because I was so wide. After a few moments, I freed myself but the suspect had already gotten out of my sight. Other units caught the guy, but after we all cleared the call I went back to the station and broke down. I went to see my doctor a few days later and he gave me the no-BS talk. He told me that if I continued the way I was going, I wouldn't see 40. I'm down to 285 with progress still to make, but even the progress I've made has been life changing.

You should come to Germany for about 6 month. We got about 300 different kind of sausages and more that 3.000 differend kinds of bread. But you can try out every one of them and still lose weight. Because even the unhealthiest bread you can buy here contains less sugar than the cardboard they sell you as bread in America. You will only find a small selection of ‘American cheese’ (which, by the way, is not American - and in many cases not even cheese) here. Most varieties fail to meet the EU's minimum requirements for foodstuffs and are perhaps still allowed to be sold as sealant to workshops and plumbing companies.

I’m 5’0” I used to weigh 225 pounds, I was diagnosed with type two diabetes three years ago, I’m down to 150 pounds, my A1C is 6.2, when I was first diagnosed my blood sugar was 600 and my A1C was 11, my dr was afraid I was going to end up in a diabetic coma, he pulled me through. I can’t walk very far, my legs feel like jello, but other than that I feel better than I have in years, I’ll be 66 in 3 months

I used to work at a major hospital as a laboratory technician and we had a sitdown one morning with a supervisor to explain to us that we could no longer use the terms 'heavy', 'overweight' or 'fat' in any context anymore because it would offend some of the patients who were, in fact, heavy and overweight and fat. We were told to try to be more 'delicate' and 'positive' when approaching these patients or there would be a 'legal crisis' the hospital would have to deal with (don't ask me why this was being told to lab techs; we hardly leave our workspace and patients don't visit us). Fun fact: fat is adipose tissue, where unused nutrients and materials are stored until they are used up through exercise or, in some very negative cases, starvation (and that isn't a guarantee; you won't suddenly drop weight by skipping meals and you may retain it or gain more as a result of the body trying to survive at the sudden loss of intake). I missed a few beats while considering the rebuttal, and once it hit me I declared "So what are we supposed to do, call them 'people of untapped potential'?" The supervisor was hoarse-laughing for five minutes and on the floor for three of them.
