Great play by Avalser. After this game I came to a conclusion that Ryhmä is too risky for Kostritsa. For blue side it's awesome, for red side it's mediocre at best. I made a lot of mistakes for sure, but (first) picking Ryhmä here felt like playing the game on hard mode.

While the commentary is top notch and the video quality on the whole is amazing; I think the fact that the top players are commenting and giving advice/thought processes makes these videos absolutely incredible. AP keep up the incredible work and providing an amazing setting for the community (and keep taking that time for yourself and family as well)

122mm are crazy in direct fire support. They have 40% accuracy on both HEAT *and* HE. 160mm pen HEAT at 40% is obviously lethal to anything but the biggest cats inside 1500m. The HE accuracy is so impactful that 2 of them will easily beat a panther or tiger at 2k just using HE. It's unironically hard to get rid of w/o air, arty hits, or stuff like grille/other armored 2khe. At 80 points, it's IMO one of the best all around arty pieces just because it is SO good in direct fire while still being passable at taking pot shots via indirect. IMO any arty tab with these should take all of them. Having more, he could have dropped one outside the IG 18 range in the south and just ranged it to death with direct fire, then fired it + the AT gun at the stug, providing immediate push support unless opponent reacted and arty it down fast enough. 20mm AA can be solid enough with vet boosting...they don't cost that much per piece, not bad at all at dropping planes for cost. They're better against the high-agility/low durability planes, but can put down medium durability no problem.

Do indirect arty pieces like the 122mm automatically target enemy units when firing in direct fire like a normal 2KHE support gun would? Or do you have to manually target units when using direct fire?

@@firstnamelastname1760 Artillery works like any other direct fire weapon. The exceptions are mortars and rockets, which cannot direct fire at all. 122mm (and some other artillery) had an odd interaction, however. Because they have 2kHE but only 1.5k HEAT shots, they will not automatically fire HE at tanks > 1.5k away. If you turn off their HEAT, they will then shoot HE at tanks at any range. Most artillery is kind of bad at shooting tanks, because their HE accuracy is low. the 122mm guns, however, have 40% on both. If the enemy gets within 1500m, you should turn their HEAT shots back on in most cases, because they have 160mm of pen with no dropoff! That said, a pair of 122mm will kill stugs and such pretty quickly. If one drives into the HE shots from 2 of them, it will barely get a chance to fire at 1750m, then it will panic and die. I think even one 122mm will beat a stug 1v1 if it has to drive in from 2k with some damage to the 122mm, so this becomes a priority target for enemy artillery and bombing. It's a better IG33 that costs more but comes with an indirect fire option. It's a weird in-between gun because when it isn't shooting in direct fire, it can try to fight enemy artillery and/or mortars that shoot at it, but it's way better at direct fire than usual. The soviet ZiS-3 is similar, except its HE direct fire range is only 1.5k and the HE damage is weaker (less viable against tanks, but in many cases it should just fire its AP).

The soviets have a squad with 2x lahti, 5 smg and a he grenade for 20pt. I’d say that is the best at rifle unit ^^

27:30 what is worst about this argument is that it's not even true. They are not good even in group. 4 FlaK38s have lower DPS than single Flakvierling, while it should be the opposite (4 single-barrel guns irl as a group will have better effectiveness than single four-barrel gun) You need to pay 160 points to call in 4 FlaK38s, while only 115 for single Flakvierling - which despite this outperforms them. The numerical advantage is also lost because you are basically forced to take them at vet2 if you want them to work at all, which limits them to only 2 per card, so you're not even able to match a single Flakvierling with single 20mm card They 100% underperform and should get a large buff and I have no idea why devs ignore it for so long. Also this remains true for all nations with single-barreled 20mm guns, Polsten, Breda, 72-K, all of them

Having a low per-unit cost and being able to distribute them gives them some utility, though. 3 20mm are clearly worse than one flakvierling, unless opponent flies planes where the flakvierling can't shoot at them (either at all or too late to kill/interrupt bombing). They can be pushed from 1 vet to 3 via commander network, though that works best when you're getting more value out of the commander than just that.

@@TheMelnTeam Yes but if you place them all near commander/leaders you lose the benefit of spread-ability in the first place, which is their one and only advantage. That is the problem If they had better performance they could actually be used for that wide and spreaded-out AA net building, but in current state it simply doesn't work because of how utterly shite and ineffective they are

Absolutely. Funniest thing is how four 2cm FlaKs are having lower DPS than a single Flakvierling, even though they should be at least equal (and possibly better, because 4 teams of 1-barreled guns would fire faster and more accurately than single 4-barrel gun)

I saw that Jaapaasa was a bit too severe in comments with his Ryhmä. I do not think that Ryhmä is too risky on Kostritsa, I think that Ryhmä is one of the best div for the map but the problem is more the fact that Jaapaasa get hard countered by 2Pz. I mean I find the counterpick of Avalser fantastic. For me the game was over before it starts, 2Pz is better in almost every tab except the air tab and counters all strengths of Ryhmä. As a big player of Ryhmä, I would not be so severe but I understand the feeling of Jaapaasa who lost with this favored division for whom he is maybe the best player. Then no shame at all, just a bad pick and a great counterpick. There are multiples Skills, and one is to first pick well and another is to counterpick well. Last point, Kostritsa doesn't have better side for me, it is just that the two sides are really different and whatever the side you have. The player who has the best plan will likely win, and if you have a favored matchup it is again better ! Maybe a sentence a bit too general but on Kostritsa it is again more true because the map allows you to have different axis attacks and different phases in those attack you planned.

@@tedarcher9120 Not in this meta. And the main reason is that during this game it felt that I couldn't do anything in long range inf combat. The 2-vetted pzg ate my long range inf. So i'd rather face single mg-units from pancelos

Lovas long range inf would have dominated, but its cqc is worse than 2nd Pz because of the vet. Hadoztaly would have been interesting though

@jaapaasa true, but your mistake was picking Mav instead of balanced. He can't do much at all about your cqc inf, so he can't push 15-9 either. The beauty of Hungarian divs is they have both double-triple mg inf and great cqc

Kostrica is not a forestmap. Rhyma is bad on this map and 2nd panzer is actually good on it. This map is closer to haro than Tsel. Therefore Japaasa had a real tough time playing this matchup. Rhyma are about as good on this map as on Haro which is quite weak. I do feel that this map is less known by players how to position to kill CQC divs on this map compared to others. But once the non cqc div just positions at the right spot rhyma is locked out and has a big outskilling needed to get back in the game. Sure there are forests but many of them have openings making them easy to cut of and there is plenty of room for medium and light armor to play in. Especially from red side its very hard to win flags as there are not that many that play into rhymas strenght. We can see it in this game where 2nd panzer rolls them despite barely any cqc. I do agree Rhyma lost power but I would downshift its Tier before and after, not B+ before. Rhyma is a good counterpick on the right map against divs that cant deal with it. But rhyma has a lot of issues it cant deal with.
