Sounds nice, but the OG exhaust X-pipe necks the whole system down to a single 2.5" pipe, while your old system kept the dual 2.25" pipes almost intact through the X-pipe. I think the OG loses a few HP when compared to the old system. OG cross section area is 4.90sq.in. through the X-pipe, old system is (let's say it lost 20% because of the cross-cut) 3.176sq.in. times two or 6.35sq.in. total.

🤣 you think horsepower is made from diameter alone… none of the bends, length or scavenging play any factor in power huh? Number crunching 1 variable and discounting 15 years of experience from people who have a dyno and built 100s of systems is peak keyboard engineering…

The merge in the middle of the FMU X Pipe looks like it has the cross section area of just one pipe. It would be interesting if FMU took this further using an X-pipe with a 3.5” or 4” center and 2.5-3” entries to retain the x sectional area of both pipes. 2.5” exhaust area 19.6cm 3” exhaust area 28.2cm So 2.5” exhaust uses 3.5” x middle (38.5cm) And for a 3” setup, use an x pipe with a 4” middle (50.2cm) Just a thought 😎👍
@JG-kv4oiАй бұрын
The larger the merge in the middle (and to a greater extent the length or volume of the merge I'm the middle) the deeper or more resonate your tone will be. I have a merge approximately 4 feet long, cross section 2.5 x 4, makes great torque and quite resonate on a L98 Corvette. 😊

Man the first gen Gallardo 5.0 sounds amazing, it's so underrated, it existed way before LFA but a lot of people didn't care about it's sound back then and it got overshadowed by LFA, in my opinion better and it's cheaper, also more tuning potential, with twin turbos this car is a beast.

👍
@ThePower10372 ай бұрын
Agreed, but it was a weaker engine because to get that 72º firing order, they split the crank journals 18ºs. The lfa made a race style 72º V block rather than the 5.0's 90º V. Making an even crank with an even firing order.
@kasebuttram95422 ай бұрын
If Lexus would have made more LFA’s I think we would see much more custom ones. There was only 500 production models made (it’s been over a decade so probably a lot less from crashes now) so it’s a collectors item. Over 7,000 first generation Gallardo’s were made. They say 14,000 overall, but I think there was much more than that built tbh. But with that many built there’s more cars to market to for services
@UKBUILT2 ай бұрын
@@kasebuttram9542 yeah, I bet in the beginning of the lambo v10 tuning days there were alot of people blowing up engines. LFA is so rare you'd struggle to get another engine. The 5.0 lamborghini v10 sounds amazing, its the real screaming beauty. The reason we don't see to many tuned ones is the weak crankshaft. 5.2 lambo blocks had a stronger crankshaft design. I am building my dream V12 supercar with the OG zonda engine😎 Then maybe after I'd love to do a V10 build 😁 I have a 5.2L and 5L V10 engies ready for upcoming builds 💪

Absolutely love your content. I have an E92 M3 and I’ve been dying to find an exhaust that give it a high pitched v8 wail. The community has experimented with double x pipes, but I’d be very curious to see what you and your team could do 🤞🤞🤞
@FluidMotorUnion3 ай бұрын
Yea… don’t do double x-pipes. We did that in 09 on our E90 m3. X’s need to be front and center and need straight tubing to clean the sound back up. Closer to the rear the more “distorted” it will get and anything over 1 good X is overkill for any benefit to sound or scavenging. It’s a gimmick that will sound “different” than other systems but not the best the engine is capable.
@michaelstables-ih1dv3 ай бұрын
I have just recently stumbled upon this legend and his work. his content is next level. I came here to say that the S65 is arguably one of the nicest sounding V8s ever produced...like from the growl at idle combined with its distinctive mechanical noises that kinda sounds like stuff is loose and then the closer you get to redline which is ages away it just gets better and better:) I did bearings on a clients e92 M3 a while ago it had a pretty nice brand name system with no cats... it was beyond amazing the noise it made but it needed just that bit more and I reckon shopfront windows would of started exploding! if it was my car I wouldn't be chasing it and I would never get sick of it but I know the noise ur looking for. after watching this channel and I guess depending if you can package it correctly I'm sure this sound can be obtained. years ago I worked on a clients, clients E60 M5..that had the most ghetto straight pipe welded onto it they were terrible, it was obnoxiously loud but omg that thing sounded legit like a F1 car at full noise, but then at idle it was just a very loud noise and would probs never sound better than a v8 at idle.. again after seeing this guys content It makes me wonder what could be done with both these examples..I'm sure this bro and by the sounds of it, he has had played with these cars before, im gonna c what I can find about the M3 he had. if you live in the same country as him you need to plan a road trip with a bag of money and book ur M3 in for the 'experience' because this man's intelligence is somthing to be respected. and also my bro congrats to you for owning one of the last true M cars:)

So the inch per 100 rule, you’ll fall between it… more depth go bigger diameter available…. So a 515hp engine… instead of 2.5… you’d bump up to the next available diameter 2.75… 3… But understand you might lose a touch of torque on a NA car in doing so.

Land Rover NV225 t case in the e53 x5 would be a mindful upgrade. The chain is half an inch wider and now you have a 2.69:1 low range. Dash, t case ecu, and low range switch is swappable if you make the crossmember brace custom.

Does the size of the X pipe need to follow the same size/horsepower rule? It looks like it goes down to the width of a single pipe there.
@FluidMotorUnion3 ай бұрын
intuitively it might seem like a restriction point but in practice you get x pipe placement and design right and it will keep exhaust velocity high via the timing of the pulses. This creates a venturi effect, pulling exhaust gasses out of the cylinder head. I assume most have figured this out like we have as this design remains fairly constant in the aftermarket gallardo exhaust designs. If you look up the dyno results for the spit true dual systems, not only do they NOT make the best power, they also sound atrocious, with the only seemingly redeemable quality being a low price... So to answer your question directly, it can- if you don't place it right, but if you do, the rapid restriction to expansion and resulting pressure change next to a venturi suction can aid in total flow.
