A few friends of mine (in Bavaria) still do it. Every year on the 6th of december they go from house to house. They talk to the parents beforehand and they tell them a few things about the kids and their behaviour. One of my friends is dressed up as Krampus (although not as scary as in these pictures) the other is dressed as Santa (Nikolaus). When they arrive they'll ask the kids about the naughty things and good things they've done this year and what they think they could improve. Then the kids will recite a poem or sing for them. Eventually Santa and Krampus will give them some sweets and fruits and move on to the next house. It's really not that bad :) Kind of a "good cop - bad cop" thing though
@behabtwa
@behabtwa 6 жыл бұрын
similar to switzerland (we call them „samichlaus und schmutzli“), kids that didnt behave during the year are told that schmutzli/krampus is going to carry them to the woods in a big bag he has on his back. i was terrified as a kid.

In Austria its like this. Christmas is on the 24 of December and there comes the "christkind" who brings presents and we decorate the tree etc. Very happy and joyful day. But on the 5-6 December there is nikolaus where an old wise man with a long beard comes to each house and tells the kids their lessons and misbehavior and the "krampus" and "knecht ruprecht" are his guardians.
