Flute Q&A: My flute foot joint is stuck!

Great tip. I leave my flute out most days of the week too but swap it regularly, often after each practice/ playing session. What makes the foot joint stick is likely some kind of very slight corrosion/oxidation taking place between the two surfaces of the tubes. Which will make them bind together.

Jane Thanks for the tip about loosening the foot joint....although sceptical about putting it in the fridge....it worked! Putting cling film in the freezer when you cant undo it to is another tip...although I don't use it now as its bad for the planet. Best wishes John UK

This is really helpful for the future but I have a brand new flute with a super stiff footjoint. I’ve only had it a few days but it feels like I can’t get the footjoint on and off properly and I am worried about it freezing. Is there a reason why a new flute would have a very stiff footjoint? (Headjoint is fine). Thank you!

The new flute may have been sitting in the box for a long time, that might have been the reason. Hopefully you can loosen it up with my tips! 😊

If you mean the joints connecting the flute, you can also use your polishing cloth to give both parts a wipe. 😀

I just bought mine and received it and I had to pry it open with a sturdy file after trying with my bare hands. I believe that it needs to be grinded down in the inner bore of the foot. Nothing else seems to work 😏

Oh no! Sorry to hear the parts of the flute weren't coming together properly! Maybe take it back to the place where you bought it so they can have a look at it for you. 😀

Oh no! 😮 You might need to take it to a repairer to help you get it off with their equipment. 😊

Sounds like you might have a leaky key if some of the notes aren't coming out right. Double check your fingering. 😀
