Love how vocal Miguel is when you’re playing. My teachers dog just used to lay down next to us and snore loudly 😂😂

I LOVED this one! I love being introduced to new pieces through your vlogs. Sur l'eau and Undine were so beautiful, and can't wait to start working on those. I love and appreciate the makeshift vlogmas this year

OUtstanding! Congratulations. A solo recital is an enormous amount of work, both preparing and of course the concert itself is like running a marathon. I commend you for choosing to favor newer music.

Wow what a totally eclectic and interesting program. Of course I'm a big sucker for the Copeland. And you guys are like one person playing that. Yay both of you!

I loved hearing your husband practice because this is what my house sounds like (taking turns practicing with my husband). Except it’s always at night with practice mutes on, haha (4 little kids sleeping)!

I'm relearning the clarinet for a choir piece this season and finding your channel has been so inspiring and fun. I focus on stretching my lower back between choir concerts, because of standing for such a long time, but I should do more arm stretching! Seeing how you practice has been really helpful. Thanks for sharing!

Helllo Katie. When I want to practice, but others might not want to hear me, I found that using a 'bread tie', ya know that little piece of wire that has a plastic coating on it keeping the loaf of bread closed, that if you use a pencil or some other small diameter object, and bend the middle of that wire tie around that object and making a half twist so that the 'tie' has a circle in the middle, then bending the two arms of that 'tie' into the shape of an 'M', with the circle being placed into the blow hole, then placing the ends of the "M" underneath the lip plate, away from your mouth, that the circle will disrupt the air flow and the flute will not whistle, but will be very quite, and then you can play without disturbing anyone. Try it, then if you find you like it, tell your students how they have no excuse. PS I also found that if I bend the circle so that it is against the opposite side of where your lips are, that your lips will not touch the wire tie. Joe

I am struck by your comment about chosing a recital dress. During the recital my eye got pulled back to the painting on the wall - a woman in a similar dress.

Lovely music you picked out and inspiring me to write more for the flute (my own instrument needs work too). Glad your train wasn’t late too! You and Santi did a terrific job!! For you iPad music, do you use ForScore?

Fascinating behind the scenes. I was wondering if during the performance you used a foot pedal to change the pages. If so it was done invisibly!!

Hi Katie. I have a propose for further practice. I noticed that you practice a lot, and maybe for a better tone. I think it suits you with a light, vulnerable tone. You have a very wellpracticed technique, but I think you should try to get a little more relaxed, it helps sometimes automatically in your everyday routines. You have too many tensions in your embouchure, which restrains you from getting all the notes out. You can try, a somewhat slow 5-notes scale: 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1-1-5-1-1.. You start on the low D, and play major, only 5 notes. The important part, is to say: Bleadrrbleddrbladr. And afterwards try to let go on the "smile", you have to do when you make a tone. Let go in your "mouth-ends" (sorry I'm danish), and focus on playing like that, with a fuzzy sound. Then you slowly take the next major scale, chromatic upwards. When you are ready to open up your sound, you can experiment with how your posture is: I noticed it suits you a little higher up with your head (Put your stand up if necessary), and a little free'er sound - that has to do with the lip' ends. Bye
