NEW VIDEO! 10 MONTH REVIEW: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3TCmXp_d92JmLs

You made the right choice. I was an original crowd funder of Glowforge and got the Basic model. For what it is, its well-built and worth the money. But, I would not recommend it for people who need to do serious, size-critical work. It does not work with native vector format and the raster conversion process is sloppy and inexact. They aren't exactly enthusiastic about anyone using anything but their expensive raw materials. Worst of all, it is tethered to the Internet, which is unacceptable if you are running a business. Great video!

Thanks for the feedback! The internet issues was the main reason I didn't choose a Glowforge. In the future I won't always have internet where I am so that was a HUGE downvote for them. Didn't know about the raster conversion! yikes!! The other big hang up was that you have to send the ENTIRE machine back if the laser breaks. No thanks! I like being able to replace everything in my machine on my own.

Surprised the instruction book was no included. Mine had a great book. More than most companies give.
@ArtistExplores3 жыл бұрын
Apparently it depends on which 3rd party you order from (or they used to not include one and have started adding them in). I've had a few people said they got one recently!

Thank you from France for this review! what about noise? do you think it can annoy neighbors when you live in a flat?
@ArtistExplores4 жыл бұрын
Hard to describe but I would say it's loud enough that it makes it harder to have a regular conversation, but it's not as loud as a vaccume or a blender. We can hear it through the wall bit it's not too bad. The smell is worse than the noise for apartment living. If they have a window open they'll get an awful smell that can cause a sore throat or other breathing issues.

So is 1/8” the thickest project I can make?
@ArtistExplores4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what your doing and your material. I did notice for wood it says 1/8th but then in the software it has settings for 5mm which is a little bit larger than 1/8th, I haven't played around with anything thicker than 1/8th baltic birch since that works for me. But with the rotary attachment ( I don't have that) there are lots of objects you can engrave just not cut.

Hi Natasha - Really enjoyed this video Thank You, Can I ask please how often you have needed to calibrate the mirrors or replace the lenses please? Is it very tricky? Thank you & best of luck with your business.
@ArtistExplores4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm going to be posting a 6 month review in two weeks where I'll show this a little more in depth, but they recommend cleaning every 40 hours of laser work and you only need to calibrate them after a cleaning. I cleaned after 25 hours because I noticed it wasn't cutting through my material all the way anymore. It really depends on which material you're cutting and how much smoke/residue it leaves on the lens and mirrors. I haven't had to replace anything on my machine yet so I'm not sure about that. Cleaning was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be, my only problem was keeping track of which side of the lens faces down but if you're careful to not flip it over too much that's not too hard. Overall I was really nervous about that whole process at first but I found it wasn't that big of a deal. I haven't changed out my water yet which is another part of maintenance but I plan to do it before the next video.

Hey, question can I use this machine for knife engraving?
@rabbidjeremy91933 жыл бұрын
@@sal3111 You need a fiber laser for that, Co2 lasers can only engrave special paints that go over metal or anodized stuff.

Just got my beamo a couple days ago. Tried few differnt things as far engraving. All went extremely well. Was planning on cutting out a few leather patterns. Have tried their parameters which states would take hours to cut out a simple pattern the size of a sheet of paper?? Tried adjusting parameters, speed, power etc and still in the hours range. Are or have u had this problm or is this how long it would take?? Also laser swings back n forth(right to left) instead of just staying where it needs to engrave. Any help on these subjects would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Olga, I would definitely reach out to Flux because I'm not an expert. That being said when I've had that problem it was actually 1 of 2 things. There's a glitch with the latest software patch. So I exit out, restart computer and machine and then it goes back to normal. OR if it still reads as hours then there's actually something wrong with your design file. Idk what file type your using but I use SVGs and every once in a while one of my designs will save incorrectly and cause an error. Then I just troubleshoot the file until I find out if it's a stray point or path, or just an SVG error and I save with a different file name. If it's neither of those definitely reach out to flux. They're really helpful and respond to posts in the Facebook group I linked in the description. I know sometimes people get faulty machines but it's usually a software problem rather than a hardware problem. Hope that helps!

Does it need special venting or a BOFA filter? What kind?
@ArtistExplores4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what a BOFA filter is so I assume no. It comes with the built in fan and the plastic tubing that definitely need to be vented to the outside. Currently I have no additional vent or fan but I'm going to be upgrading it when I move into my studio because right now I get a backdraft in my office.

Tucker? Congratulations hope you are making good progress. Tasha, are you familiar with the automatic scanning and cutout on the Laserbox? I need to make hundreds of one-of-a-kind game tiles of all different sizes. Right now I have to cut them out on a scroll saw. I want to Print, stick to wood, and have it cut out automatically. The Laserbox can do that, but that's $6,000. I need to find a plan 'B' that gets me maybe 80% of the way. 😛🤨😥😫
@ArtistExplores4 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the Laserbox before but this sounds like something you could definitely do with the Beamo as long as your pieces aren't bigger than the 8 x 11 space of a Beamo and the wood isn't thicker than 1/8th inch. Since Beamo has the preview camera it would be easy to line up your cuts with the pieces as long as it's calibrated correctly. The only thing I'd worry about is the adhesive you're using- I've seen horror stories with glue causing the top layer to catch fire so definitely make sure you're using a laser safe glue.

@@ArtistExplores So there is a menu item called "trace" that I think may be for that - last I read it's reserved in the menu for an update to the SW. But right now - let's say I have 2" tiles of a car, a telephone, a magnifying glass, some animals, etc. that I just want to cut out - and some of them have inside-cuts as well. All one-of-a-kind. What's the setup like? With Laserbox it's ZERO. Much thanks.

Hi there! Is that one the pro (50w)?ive been thinking about ordering this one was wondering how’s the engraving and the rotary and can u make big signs?
@ArtistExplores4 жыл бұрын
Hello! No, this is the Beamo which is the 30W. The Beambox is the 50W model. I didn't pay for the rotary attachment for my Beamo because I don't need it for my work and it was an extra cost, but those that use it in the Facebook group (linked in the description box) have seemed to think it works well. Most of the default settings for engraving wood have been great, I did a project a few days ago that needed a second pass to make it dark enough and it took almost two hours for a full 8x10 piece. If you're looking to mostly engrave large designs I wouldn't choose the Beamo because I don't think it's powerful enough to handle big jobs like that quickly. - Possibly the Beambox will be a fit? I'd join the FB grounp and search/ask there and someone else can give you more accurate info for that machine.
