Bloody hell! Here I am struggling to learn to have better welds and always made a mess with splatter everywhere. Struggled to find the right setting so there were minimal splatter. Sometimes it’s either too high and would burn the wire to the tip or burn a hole. I never even researched or read anything about the polarity change. I just assumed that all mig welders had the same polarity with a gas setup. I am just learning to weld and I need a ton of practice. But I’m sure after knowing that gas and gas less setup have different polarity, I’ll be more determined to give it another go. It was discouraging when I look at my crappy weld, it’s one of the worst anyone would ever see! Not having the right setup doesn’t help either. THANK YOU for the video!

I got a flux-core welder as a gift a couple years ago and was very disappointed with the amount of splatter. After viewing this video I reversed the polarity and was very happy with the results. Reversing was not easy. I had to un-crimp the leads and re-crimp, but it was well worth the effort. I had given up using this welder because of the splatter, but now I can weld the thin stock that had been so difficult with a stick. Thanks for a clear explanation with a great demo.

Thanks a lot for the explanatory and practical presentation because it helped me a lot. I'm an amateur and I usually do welding only as needed to fix something or make a little thing I can't buy. After changing the polarity, welding goes much better and looks much nicer. Thanks again! God bless you!

Wow, great demostration! Thank you sir. I just wish you had mentioned to use knurled wire drive wheels with soft crush-able flux core wire. When changing from gas to gasless you need to change the drive wheel and the polarity. Flux core needs Negative Electrode and Knurled Drive Wheel.

Good video, l just bought a flux core 130A set brand new £80, after only ever using stick, arc, MMA welders since early 80s as l was a coded welder, but this set really is OK, 0.8 wire, get very good welds, but for the people buying for car body work your better with a gas mig set as these flux cored will blow holes in the plate, but for general welding there great.

I’ve welded most of my working years, and a mig using gas is the best way to go, save your money and buy a mig welder with the gas tank. No splatter at all and great welds. A tig welder is also a great way to go , I should do more videos on welding with a tig welder.

First time I ever welded with flux core with my everlast welder was getting the polarity wrong. I'll never make that mistake again. It took me a long time to figure out what was going on.
@Yogurtmeat8 жыл бұрын
This could potentially confuse people who are not trained professional welders... Always refer to the parameter guidelines for which polarity is to be used. Generally the polarity depends on whether you are using a shielding gas in conjunction with the wire... FCAW self shield/ FCAW Dual shielded.

This welder is old and company out of business.. thanks again for your help great vid 🧨🔌

I have a question first time welding I use forney flux core wire .30 which says polarity is DCEN.. I really like that wire it worked great I ran out and where I got it from they didn't have anymore so I purchased inweld flux core .30 at Fazzios but this one says polarity is DCEP........ Also for regular wire it says DCEP .. I think this company mislabeled the description. I highly doubt both solid wire and flux core wire run on the same polarity. Anyway do I still run this wire on DCEN I was experimenting today this wire which sucks by the way it leaves a lot of slag and a lot of powder. It leaves a mess unlike fortney wire... My question is should all flux core wire regardless of the instructions be run on DCEN..

To be totally honest, I don't use a branded flux core wire. I was more interested in the diameter. it is more common in .9mm diameter. I wanted a .8mm wire, so as not to have yet another tip size

I've checked my Mig welder and although it's gas and gas less there is no where to change clamp lead to positive ,I've opened Mig welder completely up inside and no negative or positive terminals. My Mig is an old taskmaster 130 gas and gasless ,
@danburch99898 жыл бұрын
There's limited info on your welder on the internet. But it appears that your welder is gas only. DC- is for gasless FCAW. Since yours is DC+ only, you need gas to weld steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Being old, it may have been built in the days before they understood the differences in welding results between DC+ and DC-.

Ma nigga backstreetmechanic showing 2 tutorials in 1! Why don't you have another piece of metal over the tip of your gun ? (I'm new to welding)
@jamesharrell43605 жыл бұрын
It's more of a dielectric shielding to prevent noobs from accidentally contacting the "gun" to the workpiece. It's really only necessary for MIG because it contains the shielding gas. On your average harbor freight, northern tools, or tractor supply "AC Flux Core Welder" it will come with a shield or two of two sizes... Just throw them away unless you plan on letting your kids or best friend play with it.

@james4wd2368 жыл бұрын
inside the machine next to the wire there should be two knobs positive and negative, you take the eyelits off and switch them to reverse polarity
@eldongarner53758 жыл бұрын
+TheNoobComment Harbor Freight 90 amp welders are only AC there is no ability to switch polarity, their 170 amp welders can be changed. For Flu core wire. But you can get good welds with 90 amp machines. Keep your material thickness down to 1/8" .
@jeffery1967710 жыл бұрын
DCEP and turn the wire speed down or the voltage up. Unless the wire is SPECIFICALLY for DCEN, do NOT switch polarity. If you weld on anything that peoples lives might depend on, do NOT use Electrode Negative. I weld on powerplants and steam pipe for a living.
@eltonmartin56235 жыл бұрын
