Overall an excellent weekend :) I spent a ton of time preparing for this trip and from the moment I launched things started to go wrong and I realized how unprepared I was. First up my camping bag obscured my mobile phone on my leg and in trying to move the phone from my leg to the top of the bag my new tether broke and I came very close to dropping my phone into the wilderness. So I stuffed it in a side pocket which meant no comms, no map of where i was going and worst of all no music on a very long flight. The my camping bag carabiner broke on one side creating a weight shift turn. Then just as I got over the start of the remote no roads area I heard the new non standard nuts id just put on pop loose on the engine, hit the prop and then the exhaust open up like it was going to explode. Since the engine kept going and no reasonable landing options I just pushed on to the final landing spot. The camping was awesome, great company, views and beautifully peaceful. The only down side was no water and to save weight I bought only just enough for the intended trip. The next morning we woke to a beautiful clear morning and everyone was in great spirits, and then the fog rolled in. I have only ever seen the fog burn off in the morning and not get thicker as the day went on. Eventually when it looked like it was going to be fogged in all day and for who knows how many days without water we called it and asked for the paramotor community to come and rescue us by truck. Later that day we heard the truck couldn't make it as gates were locked and we were too remote to hike to them, the only option was to fly the broken paramotor out to meet the truck at the nearest field. I was too cold and thirsty to spend another night so we took the chance to fly out under the fog and around the mountains. We made it and had a big meal of roadside tacos that afternoon. Good times.
*Important safety tip. Don't try to out smart the paramotor manufacturers. I thought I was being clever by adding lock nuts to my exhaust forgetting that the exhaust is 400F and the nuts use nylon inside to lock them. In the shuffling back to regular nuts I put on the wrong nuts and almost paid a heavy price. To be fair an exhaust stud also came out at the same time so it was going to be a bad time no matter the nuts.
