By Heck, you did well there! That was a howler of a day. Good video though and you stuck at it, with the result being three fish. Thanks for sharing. Good idea that it’s barbless and as you so rightly said it was not your intention to go that light on the tippet. Well done and tight lines for the next trip.

For 17minutes of pleasure watching you fish you have had to endure a good few hours of pain.freezing fingers and face but you did grass a few nice fish to ease the pain.great videos. Ps I wonder if the low temp could be affecting the leader strength.with wind chill it could make it more brittle?
@FishOnUk29 күн бұрын
Great comments Robin. I'm pretty sure cold water does make monofilament brittle so it could easily have been a factor in it breaking. There's no hiding place though from the fact that a 5lb leader when lure fishing is too light & I should have checked it before starting fishing. I beefed it up to 8lb flurocarbon after losing the 2 fish An issue these days is that I often use the double-strength/half diameter mono for leaders to enhance presentation, so visibly it looks lighter & it can easily be mistaken with standard diameter mono.

Nice session in challenging conditions well done, can you post details on the fishery in case I’m up that way looks a nice venue thanks
@FishOnUkАй бұрын
@IanAsh-gy1te Hi Ian, it's a club run/managed fishery as part of the WADAA portfolio of waters. If you go on the WADAA website, you will find full details on there including information on purchasing day tickets. Hope this helps. Cheers, Paul.

do you check the hook points to make sure there not blunt.
@FishOnUkАй бұрын
@fisherman5517 Hi, yes....absolutely. I have a small magnifying eyepiece in my bag to check the points & a small oil-stone in case the hooks need touching up. It's minimal effort & makes all the difference.

Hello my friend,you can't be using light gear on stocky ponds , keep that for rivers .your handling fish with dry hands ..you would be asked to leave up here.looked like a brutal day well in on that
@FishOnUk23 күн бұрын
Hi Jon. It was the leader that was light, the rest of my gear was perfect for the occasion. I do use double-strength (half diameter) leaders quite a lot so my mistake was to assume that the one attached from a previous session elsewhere was double strength when infact it was standard, which I later estimated to be at around 5lb b.s. After losing the 2nd fish I beefed it up to an 8lb flurocarbon leader which much better suited the venue, water temp & size of fish. It was freezing cold & it was very wet that day & so my hands were sodden wet through all day long so handling the fish with dry hands didn't occur. Hope you enjoyed the video though & thanks for the comments, I always take them onboard.

@FishOnUk not downing on you friend, I worked at a fishery, and the things I've saw is upsetting. They feel pain and the hook takes a good time to fall out or end up up in them . We've all lost hooks but light line is a complete joke on winter fighting stockys. I wish you all the luck in the world ten pound line should be mandatory in all ponds with big fish in them .cheers n tight lines

@JonFisher-ql6xe Fish welfare has to be the priority on any venue & for any fish... & whatever measures need to be taken to ensure that should be taken. Thanks again for the comments Jon, tight lines buddy.

Using 5lb line is far too light for a place like Ghyll Head!! Now there are a couple of trout swimming around with a fly in their mouths and possibly trailing a leader around. Please show a bit of respect for your quarry and fish with an appropriate set up from the beginning.
@FishOnUkАй бұрын
Hi David, I am more than fully aware that 5lb is too light for lure fishing & as mentioned it the video it was an oversight on my part as it was from a previous session elsewhere fishing smaller flies. As your no doubt aware the takes can be very violent at this time of year so it was a mistake on my part & I replaced the leader for 8lb flurocarbon leader. It is barbless only on Ghyll Head so it is very likely the flies would have been deposited from the fish immediately or soon after & no harm done. I was broken off at the fly so no leader trailing at all. Thanks for your comments tho, I do happily accept constructive criticism as any decent angler should & would.
