Hey hey Teacher! Great video highlighting the Allegheny Native flies pack. And a beautiful stream to do it on 👍🏻. Nice job, thanks for sharing.

Hey Scott! Sorry for the late reponse. I appreciate you watching and your fishcation has been cool to see. I need to watch your most recent one still. I should have time this week and look forward to it. Keep up the great work and we will connect this summer. Long over due!

Nice to see a video from you! Decent day on a marginal stream and you gotta love when someone sends you flies to test on your local waters. Doubles are cool regardless of what’s on the hooks. Tightlines my friend!

Hey Dale! It was nice to put out a video. This summer i hope to get back into the swing and do more regular uploads. School will be over soon, I am scaling back the guide business some. Therefore, it should open up an opportunity to fish once a week and possibly record/edit. We shall see. Big project in the works though and that should be fun to see come to life. The first video I put out will have a doubles of trout :)

Even if it’s a marginal trout stream, it’s still great looking water and scenery.

Hey Scot! Thanks a lot for watching and commenting. A no frill fishing video, but everything turned out just fine. The new flies worked well an d the creek definitely proved marginal water can be lucrative if timing is right.

Wonderful video Mike! I noticed you mentioned having trouble with focusing with your eyes. I bought a magnifier that clips on your hat or vest, they really help with looking at the small flies and threading tippet thru the eyes of the hooks. Enjoyed the action on that marginal stream you fished! As always enjoy the content you provide!

Question? Have you ever tried wet flies on these streams you fish?
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
I have not tried wets no. Would also be a challenge given spooking fish from above to present a wet below. Unless I am minsreading how west are used. I do swing my nymohs this time of year on streams that have good hatches and get good takes and eats on CDC nymohs being swung in current.
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
Hey Jerome! Thanks for watching and hope all is well. I do carry magnifiers with me and definitely have at my tying desk. I’m good enough for all nymphs and most dries if they don’t crowd hook eye with hackle. Thanks for tip, they do really help. Glasses coming soon I’m sure lol. Tight lines.

@@tightliningmd sometimes I fish wet flies like emergers just under the surface.

How is it casting the 11 footer for dries? I have a 10 that is a little clunky. Lots of wild browns in that stream!
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
Hey John, I think it’s doable on an euro rod. I think the length of leader is the challenge. Longer the mono rig or leader the tougher to cast. I think the shorter with more euro fly line used the easier it becomes. I also usually go dry dropper to add a small amount of weight to help cast it. I’ve had modest success that way, which I’ll take for a change of pace. Tight lines!

Nice video Mike. Any thoughts on what makes the blowtorch such an effective fly? See you soon mate.
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
Hey Neil! Thanks for watching and I’ll be seeing you in 5 days. Can’t wait. I think the blow torch is taken in moderate to high water so well bc it’s a perfect attractor. It has the CDC collar for swinging and movement, it’s got the flash of tinsel and hot spot collar/butt to draw attention, and an overall slim profile with dark dubbing that gives it a pseudo natural body. In the spring it simply can’t be best in good water flows. I have had a TON of success on a Perdigon version as well.

Great Video Mr.Slep! Very fun to watch and listen to. Can't wait to watch more content from you! Quick question, what streams do you go to for fly fishing?
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
Hey Adam! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. To answer your question, it all depends. I like to fish for wild trout. As a result I fish the Gunpowder a river a lot. It’s a year round fishery and really great numbers of fish. However, they stock many streams with trout from April-May and again in fall, like the Patapsco. I used to fish for those stocked trout when I was not much older than you. Feel free to ask at school if you ever have question. Have a good holiday weekend!

Thanks for the video. Could you tell me what the nippers you're using are?

@@tightliningmd Thanks Mike. The nippers come in many flavors. Which one do you use? On another note, were you using the leader in the video description? I ask because that doesn't seem to be a micro-leader. Thank you for all the great stuff that you put out on KZbin.
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
@@alexargyros7186 Hey Alex, I use the original snip great. Also, for the leader that is not the same. I need to publish one with my updated leader. I have one recorded, but may end up re-recording early in summer and posting. Keep an eye out for that. Definitely my preferred option when nymphing only.

What net was that Mike?
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
That is a new net from Rock Spring Net company. It’s made of wood. SUPER SUPER light and really well designed. Bag is rubber and small holes, which I like. Also, wooden nets float. So when in a flat pool or eddy it’s like a live well. Very good net and well run small business. New company too, give them a look!

Forgive me not a fly fisherman what is a marginal stream ?
@tightliningmd Жыл бұрын
Marginal just means a stream that doesn’t hold a lot of trout and possibly even May warm a bit in the summer and make fishing questionable. It’s a good question.

Don’t clip your tippet into the stream, do the right thing

Are you referring to the minor clippings from excess after a knot is complete? If so: how is it you dispose of each one of yours. Thanks for any feedback
