I've done this. Then going from Walmart's special to a sage with teeny fly line is a world of a difference.

Totally tried it out. I went to Wally world and picked up the same combo and poppers. They did not carry tippet at my location, so I improvised with a small length of fluorocarbon. I went to a well fished river near the house and hooked my first fish on a fly rod! It was totally exciting! It just goes to show that even with poor technique and what most fly fishermen would consider subpar equipment that one can access the sport and have fun catching fish! The sport feels like it has such a steep learning curve and high entry fee in equipment. Thanks for simplifying it. You inspired this dilatant! P.S. I also gained great respect for those who have great technique and skill.

Lol that’s my first and only fly rod because I said I don’t like it ans it lands up in lake at least it was only 40 bucks but it’s still with me and catches alot of trout

The technique is more intimidating to me, like the soft plastics that come in jars for regular fishing. Been eyeballing that combo off and on when I visit Walmart.

I understand, but don't let it intimidate you, it's really not hard and you'll be glad you learned it. I'd say watch 1 youtube video on casting a fly rod to understand the basic motion, then spend a little time in your backyard practicing and you can pick it up in less than an hour.

Haven't decided to grab it yet. Also in the waiting game on a parts kit getting shipped. Repurposing a saltwater combo for catfishing.

It's a totally fine rod to get started to learn the basics until you want to buy something with a little more quality. It has some obvious deficiences compared to my higher priced/"brand name" rods which is to be expected, but I do occasionally still use the OZK Trail rod as a backup even as a experienced fly fisherman in little smallmouth creeks. I'll say this too, buying an expensive rod to start won't make you a better fisherman. Learn the basics with whatever rod you have, then when you're ready to upgrade you'll have a whole lot more fun with your new gear.

It's an Ozark Trail Fly Rod Kit from Walmart! Might only be available within the Ozarks...not sure on that, but you can order online. Good luck! Hope this helps.

Keep this up, This is the first vid I've seen from you guys, going to check the rest out. If you aren't already get the fly bass content flowing, there is little to none other than the up north Kelly Galloup types.
