Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked it. Peaked to soon ! No, it was a great day, not made it up there this season so far, been trying some others hill lochs I've not fished before, but I'm sure it will have fished well in the early season.

Love it! Nice to hear you've not lost your Yorkshire accent living up there. Same as me really, America for 12 years, still Yorkshire as **** :D

Ha, definitely, got to remember our roots! I do throw in some Scottish phrases, but in that accent - I embarrass myself trying to pronounce place names still!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The main lochs have been fishing well, had the first few sea trout this week too, so if there is rain they will be running too. Hope you have a good visit and all the best if you wet a line.

@@highlandfishingdiary8818 thanks, plan to spin off the coast for a pollock or two and the fly rod is packed too. Staying at Colbost.
@highlandfishingdiary88183 жыл бұрын
You should get some good sea fishing, mackerel are about too now, Neist point is the obvious place and pooltiel pier/rocks can be decent, close to Colbost, but sure you can have an explore. Good luck.

A truly fantastic day! Superb fish from a Highland loch. You'll remember this forever. Goid luck with your you tube channel, mor days like that and you'll nail it! When I started last year I fluked a very nice salmon on my 4th vid, but often I'm scratching for content after a succession of blanks🤣 (soul trader 57)

Thanks, I’ll check out your stuff, and cheers for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed it. Days on hill lochs are not always like that, but that one is a very good one. So I was lucky I got plenty on camera. I’ll keep doing short vids if I can keep getting bits and pieces of footage of the different fishing I do,, but I do find it quite tricky. My hope is to get a salmon between now and Oct 15 season end, but maybe the camera will be the kiss of death!

@@highlandfishingdiary8818 ha ha! That's always how it works, I've been trying to catch a decent pike on fly for a vid for a year, and only had Jacks up to 3lb so far, despite doing OK in the pre you tube days! Some of those little rivers on Skye and mull are bang on for salmon I believe when the water is right, so good luck! 😊

Yeah, the whole west coast struggles a bit with the salmon plus this yr and previous it has been very dry. I’ve been lucky to get a few in the 15 yrs I’ve been up here, I think there’s only been two seasons I didn’t manage one. Best time is late Sept and the final season weeks in Oct. yrs ago, you hear what the fishing used to be like, many of the small burns had salmon, but just sea trout now. Good luck with the pike, we’ll do some on the mainland this autumn/winter but I have many blanks on these big lochs under my belt
@davidprocter15853 жыл бұрын
@@highlandfishingdiary8818 I get the impression that mull and Skye fare much better with sea trout than many mainland streams, probably because the salmon farms are usually closer to the mainland shores, with the attendant lice infestations. A guy I spoke to says he's been taking a week in mull every year for 25 years and never blanked for salmon, even in recent years. Generally uk salmon situation isn't good at all

Lovely video - with major sound level issues

Cheers Doug. That was my first attempt at documenting my trips, I only do it for a bit of fun round my busy day job and young family. I don’t spend much on the equipment/camera either, so I hope the sound has got a bit better as my videos have progressed, i do try 😆 it’s one of the more difficult aspects I find, i’m often out in all weathers, strong wind etc. appreciate the feedback and I’ll keep working on it. But hopefully i do get across my love of fishing where i do. Cheers.

Fantastic days fishing and what a way to top it off with a visit form a sea eagle I think I it was ? Could you tell me what flies you were using plz I’m planning a trip to that exact spot thanks 😊 would love to catch some broonies and hopefully get a look at the bird 🦅
@highlandfishingdiary88183 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s fly only so just standard wet flies, kate mclaren etc are a starting point. I’ve never been up there later in the season, hopefully it’s not too weedy (many of the hill lochs do get weedy) though it’s not as shallow as some so may be ok. Day tickets for the hill lochs are from Inside Out in Portree, good luck and good chance you may see either a golden or sea eagle.
@kevinogilvie70823 жыл бұрын
@@highlandfishingdiary8818 brilliant thanks hopefully it’s not too weedy but if it’s deep enough then maybe it won’t be a problem we’ll worth a visit anyway , and thanks again 👍🏻

Where do I get a ticket for these lochs?
@highlandfishingdiary88189 ай бұрын
They are on our lochs day ticket if you go to our website (Portree Angling Association) there is info on there as well as a contact email on the welcome page for further enquiries. Usually fishing enquiries that go to that email get forwarded on to me anyway and if you need more info I can share it there, they are a fair hike and I can give you some pointers on access etc. Thanks 👍
