Fly fishing for rainbow trout Ballinlough,Co.Mayo 🇮🇪

A windy day fishing for rainbow trout on Ballinlough just outside Westport in County Mayo. I'm joined by Dorrie Gibbons for the day with strong winds blowing at 30km gusting to 60km making it difficult to see small dry flies.
Couldn't get any trout on the washing line method so I stayed with fishing the dry fly

I'm well use to it Ross and those trout seem to like the shore line where the wind is blowing in, hopefully I get a few more days there before it closes, I'm only 45 minutes away. Thanks for comment and watching 👍

Another nice video Joe. Well done, great visual fishing on the dries when you get it. You were hard on that lassie at the start. Nae time for chattin! I went trout fishing in Ballinlough not so long ago, but it was Ballinlough in Co. Roscommon... I didn't know there was a Ballinlough near Westport

Got my first trout there in June 1965 on a small Meps - that time it was one of the few stocked lakes in Ireland - fish were all about 3/4 lb termed "hybreds".

They were salmon x trout hybrids stocked by the Salmon Research Trust.

@@russellpoole3151 often wondered what they were as they did not look like rainbows. I ws ten and a day not forgotton - my Dad got two and a cousin 4 on fly.

You made some of those catches look easy, which I'm sure they weren't, given the conditions.

I was getting a lot off offers to the dry but not connecting, dropped leader diameter to 0.15mm and it made the difference, even in the big wind they were spooky. Thanks for comment and watching Evelyn 👍

that lake is my local fishery and me and my mate fish it every 2nd week... my biggest fish was a 5 pound rainbow
