This water and them conditions we are very used to. Its just like our local water Hayscastle in Pembrokeshire. These exposed waters produce very strong fish. They also have a great system there. Thanks for the comment Paul. Take care. Shaun.

Thanks Ray. Sorry we missed you the other day. But had planned a day with the boys for Sunday. You had a great day. Sunday was somewhat different. 5 on the water. Emyr had three on a fab. Steve had three two of which were on a snake and one on my olive beaded apps thing. Arran had two, not sure what on. Then Gareth and myself blanked. I did have two on, but lost the battle. Catch up soon mate. Shaun.

I would have contacted you. Thing is we never knew what day we was fishing or what water we was going to fish. Each of the waters were off the cuff. I will be checking out a few more of your videos soon, As Justin and myself want to go back to that one where we bumped into you. The fishing that day was ok. but we feel the water got the better of us. So we want to settle the score. Catch up soon mate. Shaun.

Hi Mike hope your keeping well. Seems like a lot of people struggling to fish with this weather. We are lucky down here. We have not been affected. Mind we have no fresh stock going in, as the fishery can't get fish here due to the weather. So its proper fishing here for a while. Going 2mos. I know its going to be difficult as the last stock was over six weeks ago. But I am really looking forward to it. Might put the camera on.

Ye got a lot of fishing in during that holiday period. But its now back to normal. Goes so quick. I bet the weather is pretty bad up there. Down south are getting bad ice. But hear in Pembrokeshire we are fine. Can't get stock in the water mind as it comes from the south. Exmoor. So the fishing is difficult at the moment as last good stock was about 6 weeks ago. Mind I enjoy it like this. Thanks for the comment mate. Take care. Shaun.

Hi tosh mate, hope your keeping well. The weather was OK really. Don't mind a bit of wind, and we are used to it really. We could have fished on from the other bank. But we had already covered that and struggled to move any fish. They were nearly all down on the wind bank. Besides that I had a four plus hour drive to get home. The Ellerdine pattern is for some reason quite consistent. Fished it on a fun trip we had before Christmas. Justin my self and Gareth Wilson. UK Fly Fisher. Ellerdine was top pattern on the day and gave me top rod. Which is a very rare thing against two top rods. Thanks for the comment mate. Take care. Shaun.

Hi Shaun, I’m new to fly fishing, less than a year, but absolutely love it and watching your videos. Some things (a lot really) are new to me so could you explain why you use braid between your fly line and tippet. I notice you mention this quite often and I would love to know. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
@shaunfishes101
@shaunfishes101 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for tuning into our channel Roger. The braid is I think a preference thing most of all. I was introduced to it years ago when we fished mainly the rivers. Its like an attachable sink tip. All I needed was a good floating line and a few braids. Floating, Intermediate and Slow Sink was the main which I would use. It meant I could travel light, which was essential when walking for miles on the rivers. Each pool or run would be best fished with different Braids. A fast run would require a faster tip, and so on. But I have continued to use them on Still waters. Some people would rather purchase a sink tip. For me that means more money for spools and the extra purchase of the line its self. As you are new to this sport I will explain a bit as to why you would need a sink tip. The main for this application would be to keep the pattern you are fishing at a certain depth. At a certain speed. Lets say an unweighted nymph, and you fish it steady, but want to maintain say 2' to 3'. You may require the Intermediate Braid. Go faster and maintain that depth. You will require a faster sink. Some might say simple put an Intermediate line on. Wrong. The Intermediate even with a quicker retrieve, will continually sink. Which means for the later part of the retrieve your fly would be fishing below 3'. One other thing I do like about the braid. Since the introduction of the welded loop. I do prefer to have the thickness of a braid on that loop, opposed to a much thinner mono line. Thinner mono can damage the Fly line by cutting in. Braids are more often tapered, which can help transfer energy from the fly line to tippet. Which means a better turn over. A bit like a motor way. 3 lanes into one straight away means congestion. Oh and you can get away with less tippet. You can always give it a go. they are cheap enough. If it does not work for you, then you have not broke the bank. But always keep them handy, as they do not take up much space, and you will never know when they may be needed. Easy to put on and take off. they are loop to loop. Hope this helps Roger. If ever you require an honest opinion on any thing, just ask. If I don't have the answer I am sure one of the boys will. This is why we are here. To support people like your self. Good look with it Roger. Don't get caught up in the numbers game, as most do. HAVE FUN. Shaun.
@rogerblandford9598
@rogerblandford9598 Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Shaun. A very comprehensive and understandable answer. I currently have only a floating line on one reel which doesn’t accommodate spools so trying different braids could well be an affordable solution for me to try. As you say, 5ft braids (found some on Snowbee) wouldn’t break the bank. Thanks again.

Very true that Mike, the fish are smarter than most give credit. Something different can sometimes pay off. The net Justin lost a fitting out of it a long time ago when he was using it. I did a temporary fix, which eventually drove me mad. So its all sorted now. All it was is a small bolt. Just to lazy to get the correct size. Ye proper wind, just like home. Nice one Mike, take care mate. Shaun.

I know exactly what you mean. we have tried that method but it does not suite us as we like a bit more activity. I found that I missed out on so much. The hit for first, then I enjoy looking around and taking in all the nice things that the day brings. But If I had to keep my eyes on that bung to scared to miss a dunk all day. Well. Ye not for me. When I want to present a fly at three foot down static. I go floating line and three to four foot of tippet. It works well. Most people believe a fish will not touch it, unless the tippet is at least 10 to 15' long. Not True. I have two videos with one foot of tippet. Second video the fish were smashing it. Thanks for the comment John. Take care mate. Shaun.

Shaun what fly floating fly line do you use because I'm having trouble with my lines they always seem to sink on the last 10 to 15 ft it's really bugging me .. I've bought the Barrio line you recommended and it's the same 🤔😕😕
@shaunfishes101
@shaunfishes101 Жыл бұрын
The chances of a bad batch when purchasing lower end market lines are higher than those at the top end. But for most they are going to be happy. However as you have the barrio line with this problem, I would contact Mike at Barrio. I am sure he will deal with this. But a line I do use a lot is the Rio Single Spey. This is my second one as the first one did have a fault. Exchange no problem. One positive hear, you have a good few sink tips.
