Cool to see the two hand rod in use! I use spey rods and skagit heads for everything now. For the estuaries I do water born spey casts and for the surf I overhead cast. I just used a lighter skagit head for the overhead casting. Totally versatile system especially since if you want to change line density you only need to change out your tip and keep fishing. You can cover so much more water in a shorter amount of time without all the false casting and a two handed rod can launch line a mile with a mono running line.

That’s awesome! My buddy keeps telling me to switch to the Spey rod. Tight lines! 🤙

I stay in Amagansett, I find access to the south shore in that area challenging. How far are you fishing from East Hampton. Thanks, John
@SergioDiazFishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, I usually fish Moriches and Shinnecock in the spring depending on what's working and mostly the back bay not so much the ocean although that can be very productive too. Let us know how you do and tight lines.

Great video, nice catches and release, know those areas specially from Jones beach onto Montauk. I was hoping you talk about the outfit used " Rod size, Line weight, Reel- whether it can be used for fresh water and saltwater", Peace.

Hey man, sure. I'll add those details to the video in the description. Over the winter I plan on doing a video about what I use for tackle, flies and locations in the spring. Thanks!

Awesome video! I just picked up a fly rod last week, it's tough. Can I work the clouser with floating line as well?
@SergioDiazFishing3 жыл бұрын
That's great news, you'll have lots of fun fly fishing. Floating line works but in shallower slower moving water. As you can imagine the line will be floating and only your leader and clouser will sink so with fast moving water it will be hard to stay near the bottom. We use floating line and clousers for sight fishing all the time! and it works great 🙌

@@SergioDiazFishing Sounds good, hopefully I will see you out on shinnecock and get some pointers.

Is your leader just a straight piece of mono fishing line or is it specialized leader for fly fishing?
@SergioDiazFishing3 жыл бұрын
While you can have a straight piece of mono or flouro as a leader, for most situations it is better to have at least two sections of a leader, say 30lb and 20lb. The main reason for this is to be able to "turn" the fly so that you make a good presentation. Also several companies sell knot-less tapered leaders, these are ready to use right out of the package but they do cost more than if you made your own.
@saltylue333 жыл бұрын
@@SergioDiazFishing thanks I have tried both ways straight piece and tying a tapering mono 35, 25 and 20 but wasn't sure if I was using the right material. I've bought the knotless stuff before but always end up with tangles after false casting user error I guess
@SergioDiazFishing3 жыл бұрын
@@saltylue33 sounds like you are doing good, I recommend using fluorocarbon leader instead of mono, but mono works fine. Best of luck!
