Fly Fishing on Spring Creek, Almont Colorado

Being a corporate pilot, we get to visit some pretty amazing places. It was no different this time as we had a few days layover in Gunnison Colorado. Well......what do you do when you have this kind of time on your hands in one of the most amazing areas in the country?...... You go Fly Fishing of course!! Had an incredible day up on the Spring Creek just north of Almont Co. The lower section of this river is lined with HUGE pools of pocket water between downed trees and boulders, while the upper section just below the Spring Creek reservoir is lush meadows with the stream gently winding its way down between the mountain tops. This is a definite must if your a fly fisher! Nice Nice Brown and Rainbow population with a peppering of some Brooke's as well. I will be back to this place for sure........ The BIG ONE got away!

I love this area! You will have a blast! Also not too crowded. I was alone most of the time. Getting ready to move to CO, so a lot more videos will start to come! Hope ya have fun!

Our second trip to the area tomorrow. I've fished Taylor and Gunnison. The next couple days, I'm adding spring creek to my list of places I've fished.

That’s awesome! I loved spring creek and hope to get back there soon. I moved to CO a year ago, and have been slowly knocking streams off the list. Spring creek was a ton of fun! I have a new fly fishing video dropping tomorrow.

Very nice video. I spent a ton of time on Spring Creek doing research for my book "Fly Fishing the Gunnison Country" and found some surprisingly big brown trout in the meadow section just below Spring Creek Res. Not too many folks realize that there are some boss browns in that section.

Several years later comment. lol Your line was twisted one time around the rod between the fourth and fifth guides down from tip top. Thanks for the video. I was just in Taylor park last week. No peace and quiet like here.

That is upper spring creek in the meadows. There is an old cabin off thideof the road. I will be there in mid July.......
