John as always a delight to listen to. When you speak the enthusiasm and love for what you are doing oozes out of you! You may have found the secret to catching fish, low batteries!

Glad you enjoyed it. I have four more GoPro batteries and a second charger arriving on Friday. Enough for 7 hours filming with two cameras. 5 hours wasn’t enough for a full day boat session.

I had a holiday in York which put me back a week! Starting the next one today about catching the fish of a lifetime while not filming. But I do have footage from my boat partner.

Enjoyed this, again! Thanks. I’ve got the same reel, if that’s the Hardy Ultralite ASR, got it in March. The drag was so tight even on the lowest setting I asked the retailer to check it, but it did slacken off after a few months. I’ve come back to fishing after many years out so I’m not very experienced with modern equipt - perhaps that’s normal for a new reel these days. Thanks again for sharing. Jill R

I had the same problem. It’s down to setting the new spool in the seat properly. If you don’t it’s stiff as anything. Hard to explain in text but I check it twice now to make sure it’s right before fishing, set the spool in the reel housing then the reel in the spool and double check. After that it’s a fab reel.
@RobboJ303 жыл бұрын
@@johnp4hc Thanks. I’ll double check that.

Great vid as usual, this is just an observation not a criticism. i noticed or it looks like your new rod is harder work to cast than the loomis? What i mean is you appear to be working harder to cast it? How does it feel are you more tied after casting with the Hardy than th e Loomis?
@johnp4hc3 жыл бұрын
No I’ve just got a bit longer on the forward and backward casts. It’s a really easy rod to cast. I need to get back to 11-1 not 10-2. I’ve got different casts on the boat and the bank. I need to redeploy the bank cast on the boat.

Great video again John, like the new Hardy gear! What rod do you prefer between the Wraith and the Ultralite? I'm looking at the Ultralite X and the Wraith and would be very interested in your opinion. Planning now in progress for a trip down next year so keep the videos coming please!
@johnp4hc3 жыл бұрын
The Wraith is now out of production so you won’t get one unless you move fast. It’s ridiculously fast action but if you master the timing it’s a beast of a rod. The Ultralite is more forgiving and easier on the arm, just needs bit more flex during casting. For competition angling I’d use the Wraith, for pleasure angling the Ultralite.

@@johnp4hc Thanks for the info John and great to be able to communicate with someone who has both rods before I spend a lot of money. I hope Hardy appreciate what you are doing for them! The way you explained the rods I now want both lol.

Hi great video, What’s the spacing between flys and what leader strength are you using
@johnp4hc3 жыл бұрын
About 8 feet between them and 8lb Ghost or Frog fluorocarbon.
@johnp4hc3 жыл бұрын
That’s the dries. For the competition setup, I use tapered leader 5 ft 12lb, 5 ft 10lb, then 2x 5 ft 8lb with 8lb droppers.

Nope disagree . Loved that. Well done. I'm more interested in how you catch them not what they look like. Great video. Ps. After the 3rd boobie take I was screaming strip that line into my phone🤣.

@@johnp4hc I suppose rainbow trout are pretty boring to look at but brown trout are worth more than a distant glimpse. Maybe because I caught so few I was more interested in each of em as individuals.

@@Nicenotherbaltea These ones were only stocked rainbows. But caught at a time when no one else was catching much.
