Zak Brinkhaus I work as a deckhand in Westport from April through October so it's very likely you've seen my truck. I'm parked down at the far end of the Marina most days and share a rental house with several of our crew during the season

Can you fish any time of year for them? Are you able to eat them?

Our fishing regulations up here get pretty complicated, but in a nut shell you can target resident coho and sea run cutthroat in Puget Sound pretty much year round if you're willing to move around. Resident coho, as I'm catching the most of in this video, are open in the south sound year round most years and are open to target in the north sound in the summer. When it's open you can usually retain two hatchery fish per day, and they are delicious. Sea run cutthroat are open year round in Puget Sound and are strictly catch and release. Thanks for watching!

Boris Lol thank you so much for the input. Perhaps you would be willing to take a trip to the NW and teach me the finer art of strip setting on nippy resident coho. But hey, thanks for the view ;)

Nick Clayton sorry didn't mean it a negative way, just funny seeing those slow hooksets

Boris Are you a saltwater guy? Curious as setting the hook on most saltwater fish is much different than freshwater. Super quick trout sets where you lift your rod up simply don't work here.

Nick Clayton Why not? Seems like aggressive fish that would inhale a fly
@tristanmikoleit2449
@tristanmikoleit2449 5 жыл бұрын
The biggest reason is that they are aggressive fish and will chase down a fly even after they have touched and missed it. So if you do a normal trout set and pop your fly out of the water, you are missing your chance to get them on the next strike. Notice how Nick catches a lot of the fish on their second or third strike because his fly is still in the zone after the first miss. The second reason is saltwater fish feed differently than fish in rivers. A fish in a river eats and immediately turns to go back to its holding spot. Often saltwater fish try to inhale a moving target and keep on cruising rather than turning.
