We spend 3 days floating down the Buffalo River Wilderness in Arkansas. We kayak down the river for 24 miles as we fly fish for smallmouth bass! It's an unforgettable few days of fly fishing, camping, and kayaking on this secluded and scenic river!

So well documented! I'll be heading there next month and probably headed to a similar stretch since the upper is super low for now. I'll have to pick up some of those dungeon flies and give them a go. Thanks for this timely post!

Glad y'all enjoyed it. That's a smart time to come. Water kinda low, but fewer people on the river. I'm gonna do the headwaters to the White trip one of these springs . Thankfully some smart people saved this river from being damed up during the middle of the last century. There were people who really wanted to turn this place in to another reservoir, like all of the ones along the White. Thank God people faught to preserve this place as us. It's America's 1st national river, and is truly a treasure. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! It was a memorable experience and it was a great time to float for sure! The headwaters of the White are my list as well! Yes, I’m really grateful that they had the foresight, conservation mind, and diligence to preserve this river!

Would you still recommend getting the anchor wizard for fishing rivers like the buffalo and ponds/small lakes? With a NuCanoe specifically.

Great video! I have a few questions. What did you use for a map to figure out your way points? Would you recommend 3 or 4 days? Any trouble getting across the White to Riley's? Thanks in advance

Thank you! I use onX maps. Regarding how many days, it kind of depends on how much fishing you want to do, water levels, hanging out camp, etc.. I personally like 4 days. That’s about 6 miles a day, gives you plenty of time to fish, set up camp, and not be rushed. We had no problem at all getting across to Riley, but water was low and not generating much of Bull Shoals. It will vary depending on how much they are generating out of Bull Shoals and Buffalo water levels

I'd really like to make this 3-day trip. Can you give me an idea of the cost (truck transport, camping fees, etc). Thanks, and great job on the video! JD

I honestly can’t remember the price! I had my own kayak and my buddy rented a kayak from the outfitters. Camping is free. If you have your own kayak, your essentially paying them to shuttle your truck to takeout. I’m thinking maybe like 80.00 dollars for the shuttle, but don’t quote me on that. But you may just call them and let them know your specific circumstances! Thank You!

Canoes actually do better than kayaks in low water. They have less keel and more surface area. So they glide over shallow shoals and rocks easier.
