3:07 love that behavior! My dog head-butted a steelhead in a similar fashion last fall. I was laughing so hard the fish got loose with the hook still in his mouth and had to be reeled back in for a (second) release.

Can remember using split shot 60 years ago when it was frowned on by fly fishermen, but catching larger Browns was proof enough for me that drifting streamers through deeper water with shot of different sizes and amounts worked. Like watching your videos, cannot wade and fish anymore myself, keep up the good work ..

Fella , Gareth, would seem 10/10 for fishing and having a cool dog but 1/10 for drone flying! Do you not not tie your own flies if there's a shortage of 101's, at least give it a go? They seem to be a really productive fly for both you and Alex?

At the absolute, bare minimum it was a "...couple hours Ist March..." in one of the absolute finest places on our planet. While not having many catches ("fishing" not "catching" is the name for a reason) it was one of the absolute finest places on earth to experience such an outcome. One exceptional country!

He cannot just jump in and ruin the river for another fisherman... it happens to me quite often (particularly in that river...) I follow your channel because Huge Fly Fisherman recommended you and I've enjoyed nearly all of your channel so far. But your dog is removing the very thin and slow growing slime coat from the Trout you catch because you're not making clear to him/her that the behavior is not appropriate nor acceptable. Using your fingertips nip his/her side like a moderate bite as you in a deep tone say "No". He/she will understand. The dog will do so once or twice after but he/she will learn what you mean pretty quickly. Dogs will do what you ask so long as you speak in their language! I am in no way saying "hurt your dog" nor "Use your fingertips so forcefully it breaks skin and bones", only that it make the point extremely clear to that dog that you very much don't like it. He/she will absolutely understand and get the point (but as I said it will likely take 2 or more times, because you've allowed it for so long... you've allowed the dog to endanger the well being of the fish you catch, to make the point painfully clear in case it's needed. I am absolutely not drowning you, only your control of your dog. I am trying to help you, not hurt you (clearly I live in the United States...).

@General BoyHis dog wasn't the issue. His treatment of the dog in relation to a different life form is a different discussion. The dog is what is KILLING the fish he and I are fishing for, but my English Wofhound and his retriever are the issue. Retrievers are very, very often the issue. Few other species are of such concern. People treat soft jawed dogs which are killing the fish we are fishing for (in addition to everything else in addition) their surroundings as acceptable. Soft jawed dogs for whatever cause result in a loss of slow protective coating fish acceptable, where other breed of dogs not at all. It's the owners of the dogs allowing that dog to eliminate other species which at issue, not any other matter.
@monkeymanstones14 жыл бұрын
@@Stunturtle929 retrievers seem to result in the death of other species being acceptable fair game... other breeds of dogs no. Point the finger in the proper direction friend.

@@monkeymanstones1 Those fish will survive a small nose touch of a dog. You might want to worry more about the people letting trout swallow baitfishing hooks than a curious dog.
@monkeymanstones14 жыл бұрын
@@Stunturtle929 Those fish have one of the thinnest slime coats in the fish world (excluding very deep sea species). He is fishing for the same species group I, a man with a degree in biology (focus Microbiology, minor in Chemistry) am fishing for. Look elsewhere for a target in canine behaviorism. I am only a man who grew with scent hounds (Beagles, Basset Hounds, English Fox Hounds, Harriers) and dealt with other family members who picked up dogs at seeming random which were out for blood, yet looked to me for support in dealing with those improperly raised and taught dogs. His dog is removing the very thin, slow growing slime coat of the species he's fishing for, but isn't instructing his dog not to remove the slime which protects those fish. The dog is easily trained but the fish are not and if they were they'd have to fight to avoid the dog tongue which would remove the slime coat which protects them from the bacteria in the water. You'd clearly rather not fish for Trout than protect the behavior of a dog which only wants to know what is reasonable in their life. Instructing the dog that touching the fish isn't okay once, (or because he had not before, 2+ times which the dog will eventually figure out after understanding that the owner is now giving what they wanted and providing clear instructions about the world around them so their life is better as a result... how are you missing that so painfully obvious point? Good lord man, you really cannot be this stupid... Dogs without their pack require guidance just as their pack would have given. This is not complex a all friend... take a few biology courses and my statements will become very, very clear. I very clearly stated no advocating of violence nor agression against the dog, rather that he speak a little dog since "human" has failed for so long to make sense to the dog... making clear speaking "dog" is what is needed.). My raising of my Beagles and Basset Hounds which lived for 17 to 19 years makes very clear my treatment is not just valid, but absolutely reasonable. How on earth could you possibly have missed my clear statement that he should not do so in a violent manner (as attempting to draw blood would be) is NOT VIOLENT? You clearly fail to understand basic English as you displayed a total loss of understanding of the language. Study the language, re-read the text I wrote, watch dogs interact and then come back and reply. You're dumping water from a bucket pulled from an empty well, clearly. Dogs are not human beings and speak in a different language. Learn the language and then criticize if I am off the mark as substantially far as your reply implies.
