Today I’m 18. Listening to this 4 years after discovering this makes me understand everything better. With more experience, more scars more bruises, more battles, I realize how deep the lyrics are. This song has just proven that it was a masterpiece, and it still is, because no matter how long it has been, people can still relate to it. Thanks Thousand Foot Krutch 🧡

I guess a lot of people could say it's a "break up with your bad girlfriend/boyfriend" song but it seems more like a song when you break out of a destructive lifestyle or an addiction.
@plutoreturns96305 жыл бұрын
It doesn't sound like either to me but there you go. A good song can have multiple interpretations for different people.
@mattyice41535 жыл бұрын
It's about the devil and evil/sin in this world and being passive while it's falling apart, instead of getting up and doing something to stop it. The impression I got.
@plutoreturns96305 жыл бұрын
@@mattyice4153 yeah pretty much same. In my view the devil is just a symbol for the greed and temptation that exists inside all of us "I'm on the run from a thief I let into my head" but that he "holds the key" so he can control his mind and stay true to his values without being overrun by selfish desire.
@mattyice41535 жыл бұрын
@@plutoreturns9630 exactly! These guys are a Christian band so it makes sense to sing about something as powerful as breaking away from sin.

We each have the potential to be, in our own right, a King or Queen, yet it isn't as limiting as such as a simple title. It's how you act, it's how you perceive the world around you and how you fit into it. Are your actions truely your own? Or part of a system to keep you domesticated and lacking abstract thought? In a society built to keep you sated and content, if you could truely see it all, the grand lie behind the world, what would you do with it? Would you set back and ignore it or try to comprehend it further? The theif he let into his head is self-doubt, wondering if going your own way, the path less trodden, is worth it. Staying within the herd or hive is comfortable, preplanned, and with less obstacles. You know it works because it was designed for it to work on a massive scale. He holds the keys, to his own freedom, you can choose to embrace it or let it comsume you and be less of a human being for it. He's shunning society and domestication by saying I don't need you anymore, take the pain away I don't need it, the fear and pain of not only forcing yourself to not live to your potential, but the actual physical feeling to control you. I want to be the change, every one has the possibility of being their own individual! He wants to be a shining beacon of hope so that others will see that it is possible to be truely free if only we could believe in ourselves and not society to guide us. Keeping skeletons locked away and building a wall is you walling off reality and the less socially desirable parts of yourself. Brick by brick, peice by peice of yourself, you blocked out what possibilities you were capable of. One by one, everyone became sick. Less than themselves because to be put simply they were not whole. How can you achieve an elevated sense of existence if you're not whole? Take the hurt and the pain I don't need it, the pain we inflict ourselves from not being ourselves. It becomes unbearable for few, very few, but overcoming ignorance is a good start.

My ex-bestfriend posted this song after abandoning me a few years ago. I remember listening to it on repeat and crying because it broke my heart but I couldn't stop caring. She was so manipulative and made me think it was all my fault. I still struggle not to get emotional when listening to this. It's like she was telling me I was worthless to her.

Never listen to those that don't treasure you cause they are always fake friends and be carefull when you choose your friends cause most of then wear masks that's covering their true personality, those kind of people don't deserve your concerne and don't even thunk about sheding a tear even if they die cause be sure that if you'd be dead they won't bother to remember your name. Always be strong and never give up.

I now listen to this song and think of today. With all the riots, racism, stuff like that. My favorite lines are "Take the hurt and the pain I don't need it anymore. I wanna live I wanna be the change we can all be King's and queens." Why can't we all see that? Just because we have different colored skin doesn't mean we have to be divided, because our differences make us who we are!

When he says 'And would I share what I saw? Or just sit back and ignore, like nothing ever happened, I hadn't seen you before?' it reminds me a lot of a poem I studied in Literature class last year when I was still in high school. Right now I don't remember the name of the poem or poet but it was about the protagonist casually turning around and seeing nothingness, which shocked him. At first he asked himself if he should tell other people what he saw, but ultimately decides not to because he thinks that others wouldn't understand.
